So I decided to give it a whirl.
Had these Amazon speaker trim plates. They came in super bright red.
Started off flat black base, the. I went to this red.

This is how they look WITHOUT A SATIN CLEAR.

Here is 2 coats of satin clear.

Still has some shine to it. I may let it dry up a few days then put some matte on it and see what happens.
Also, it feels/looks a tad bright. Could go a bit darker.

got them off Amazon. https://a.co/d/i7cbBGE
It attaches with 3m tape. The tape that comes on them is garbage. Easily replaced with better adhesive tape.

I ordered them in red but didn’t like the color so I painted them the best way I knew how to make the match as close as possible.
I also ordered a ring that goes around the shifter and the couple because those areas tend to be dirt magnets made out of a very tacky kind of rubber, and I wanted to be able to be easily cleaned.

come in I’m gonna use the same color paint, but I’m going to paint them in Matte clear instead of satin clear.

I bought a can of that, too shiny it seemed.
duplicor has a can that’s almost an exact match. At 17.99 a can I’ll pass on a tiny can lol.
I wonder what a sherwin Williams or similar would cost you, albeit you’d have to get a paint gun from harbor freight to match with an air compressor more than likely.

I have a paint done and a compressor I just don’t have a line dryer so I’ve never actually tried painting with it. Pretty well with a rattle camp. It just takes time and patience.

i swear, this paint looks different every different way you look at it

I bet they a body shop or Sherwin would get damn close, but I’m looking at mine right now and depending on light exposure it’s everything from a dark cherry to a much lighter metallic matte.

im pretty good at matching colors. I do it a lot for toy customs I paint. I eyeball matched a gi joe nightforce orange. After a few tests swipes I got it.
Sure I can pay 40$ for a custom mixed can.
that red can’t be much more than a black base, red cover and matte clear.

funny enough you can get a satin by doing a gloss base with a matte clear. All satin is is a little bit of clear mixed into any color. In a body shop they could actually mix a couple spoon fulls of matte I to a base coat color to get the same effect.
