Shatter noice in 4WD

Brand new gladiator and first time in the snow. Put it in 4WD high with traction control on, went through some thick snow and when the wheels lost traction it made a clicking or shatter sound. Im thinking this is normal and the traction control is engaging or 4wd is grinding. Just being paranoid. Any exerpt ideas?

Sounds like traction control to me... The noise comes from the ABS motor pulsing the brakes to keep from spinning the wheels
