Off-road plus also makes the brake lock differential more aggressive, which is a good use on the beach. I use off-road plus, and mine is a stick, so the shift point is wherever I want it to be. It's much more than just shift points.That's where the power is, in the upper rpm band. Offroad+ in 4hi is meant for desert running, dune climbing, and situations where you need lots of power and wheel spin. I wouldn't use it just puttering around the beach.
Also, there is a subtle difference between high load vs high rpm. High rpm with low load isn't necessarily "running it hard".
