So I just went out on the beach for the first time. Sand is pretty soft. Put it in 4WH and turned on off road +. It never would shift out of first gear even up 5k RPM. I didn’t keep it there long at all though but it didn’t seem like it was going to shift. Is this normal?

With 4WD high, turn traction control off in the sand, otherwise, the motor will pull power because the tires a slipping..., but, you want them to spin in the sand. Note: Traction control is automatically turned off in 4WD low.

I understand that but 5K rpm in first gear?
At what point would it shift?
Try it and see. In manual mode it'll shift around 6.

I asked if it’s normal. If you don’t know that’s fine but maybe not comment if you don’t know either

I then pushed the off road plus button and immediately noticed a small surge in power but I also noticed an immediate response in throttle sensitivity and also a definite change in shift points, staying in a gear longer allowing the engine to turn at higher RPMS. I liked it!

I appreciate the links. I fully understand it changes the shift points. But it’s really nothing to do with my wondering about it going so high. No mention of it in those links.
My concern was if 5K rpm in first gear was normal for it. To me that’s just painful in first gear on flat sand.

5k isn't going to hurt anything at all. Redline is 6500, correct? Peak Hp is 6400. You don't even hit peak torque until 4400. It won't let you overrev. It'll cut fuel before you do, even on a manual transmission. On an automatic, it'll eventually shift. You're fine. There's no exact shift point because it will depend on load and traction.

Thank you for the info.
It just seemed so extreme lol.
I never run my stuff hard so seeing and hearing it had me wondering. What you said makes sense though.

It’s normal. Off-road plus is really nice for ups and downs on muddy or rocky trails for that reason. I’m not sure I’d use it on flats, but it may work just fine. It changes throttle response as well. It took me a trail or two to get used to it, but in my opinion it absolutely increases off road control. I’ve compared my shifting to others without the feature and I’m much happier in 4hi with off-road plus, where they’ve already needed 4low in 3rd or 4th to get the same control.

That's where the power is, in the upper rpm band. Offroad+ in 4hi is meant for desert running, dune climbing, and situations where you need lots of power and wheel spin. I wouldn't use it just puttering around the beach.

Also, there is a subtle difference between high load vs high rpm. High rpm with low load isn't necessarily "running it hard".
