Hello all, just wanted to pop in and say hi! Wife and I pulled the trigger on a poverty spec Gladiator Sport last week, and it's great. We were looking at used ones, but round here you're in the mid-20s for the cheapest, oldest, highest mileage examples, and mid-30s for a newer one. It so happened that our local dealer had a base model soft top, with auto trans and Bedliner for $41K. Ok, sold! The F-250 I traded for it was worth more, so no tax even, absolute bargain.

We live in Sevierville TN, and Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge right next door is coming up, so I've been ordering some bits and bobs for it. Found some Rubicon take-off wheels with Falken Rubitrax rubber in good shape for not much, got some side steps and a cheap front leveling kit on order. Also knocked up a door rack today in my shop.

For background I'm really a Land Rover guy, 15 years in the British Army (a while back!) driving Defenders of all types, and currently have a Range Rover, as does the wife. The basicness (is that a word?) of the Sport model and the driving position takes me back to my Army days - although military Land Rovers are LOT more spartan, this Gladiator is like a limo in comparison, with the toys you get on even the Sport.

Anyway, here's a couple pics.

Many thanks! Yes, I didn't spot the rainbow at the time I took the pic, but saw it once it was on the computer.

Looking forward to learning from this forum, there's a lot to these vehicles. I have to say the move from 245 to 285 rubber has made a huge difference. Goes round corners like its on rails.

It's a minor thing, but in the UK they have the "Land Rover wave", pretty much identical to the Jeep wave. LRs aren't very common round here, so it's a very low hit rate to have a wave returned, but I'm feeling a sense of belonging with the Jeep wave, which is a much higher return rate.

Welcome to the club! We have a ā€˜23 Sport S and a friend’s brother gave us his Rubicon take offs (KO2s), plus we put a 2ā€ lift on and I love the difference it makes.

Congratulations Senex! I drove a LR around Kandahar Air Base for a summer ten years back. It was spartan and a blast to drive. Driving a manual on the ā€œrightā€ side was fun too! I agree, my JT has also filled the hole in my heart where my beloved Army issued HMMWV was parked. I totally understand your joy. šŸ‘‹

Welcome to the fun! You might want to hold off on a lot of your accessories until you go to GSMJI, as the vendors will have some great event deals going. I bought the Rugged Ridge soft top for mine at the PCB Jeep Jam for $500... normally a $900 price tag!

Thanks to all for their kind welcome!

Something came up today that I didn't notice yesterday when I put the Rubi wheels on. Today the TPMS is bitching at me that it can't see the sensors. I'm sure the wheels actually have the sensors fitted, and I am aware there was a change in '21, so earlier wheels will have different sensors. But as far as I am aware, these wheels are off a '23.

So two questions:
1) Were those style wheels made in 20/21? If so, that's my issue and the seller was erm, let's say fluid with their age.
2) Assuming they're 21 or newer (which I do believe they are), any ideas why the TPMS can't see any of them? All four are showing zip in the dash display. Do they perhaps take a while to register?

Edit - I think I may have found my issue. These are actually off a Mojave it seems. The Jeep silhouette is silver, not red. And there are pictures of '21 Mojaves with the same wheels, so it is possible (probable even) that these are incompatible earlier sensors, and I'll need to have them changed. Or do without TPMS, but I don't like the warning icon on the dash.

One of the best things about my Gladiator is the feel of the seat position. I never really thought about it until seeing this thread, but it’s definitely the way it feels like I’m in a much more comfortable HMMWV, MRAP, or MATV. Thanks for helping me figure out why it feels so right sitting behind the wheel.

You should be able to have them swapped over from the wheels that were on when you bought the truck into the rims you bought...
Yes, the thought occurred, but I intend to put the OEM wheels back on (with like 180 miles and zero damage) when I trade the truck. I’ll see what my accountant says, but it might be as soon as next year that I trade it, if it’s better to depreciate the entire thing this year.

So if I put the ā€˜24 sensors on these older wheels, that would work against me when I come to trade, so I think it’s cleaner to just have the newer type put on. I would think any tire shop could do that for like $25-$35 a corner.
