Anyone with a soft top tried disconnecting the frame from the door surrounds and laying the top back on the bed rail with the frame flipped towards the tailgate/into the bed? I'm imagining this would end up looking somewhat like the roll up tonneau behind the rear headrests and get rid of the goofy sunrider on top of the roll bar look.

Something along these lines? Please excuse the terrible photoshop skills haha

There is not a frame on the rear roll bar, it's all on top. So if you unbolt it there is no pivoting it out of the way, it just comes off.

Right, and if you went ahead and fully "removed" would it be possible to lay it backwards on top of the bed?

You could put it there but nothing would hold it on. Your photoshop shows connections that do not exist. What you're looking for would be an entirely new aftermarket frame which may be possible but the existing soft top will not accommodate that.

Ratchet straps & trail rail to the rescue.
