Im recalling similar issues when the aux dies, but you mentioned its bypassed and has HST so Im going to guess its not shorted there. Wish I could help more, but Im sure someone else will step in shortly. GL.
Yeah, no............ if the aux battery dies, since it's in parallel with the main, things will still operate as far as lighting and so on. Both batteries have to be under about 11.6 or so for it to be DEAD, no lights, no nothing.

Aux battery gets blamed for all kinds of shit - I wonder if it's not in some EPA papers as having caused global climate change. Jeep people blame it for their wife being grumpy, tires going flat, you ame it

Always on point but no blame im the game for me. Im sure we'd more than agree on matters like climate and the emotional climates of wives.. Im as green as they come with the JT, but try to reach with my background in the Semiconductor Engineering field. Its not as similar in some cases as I'd like, or perhaps my ego would prefer.

I alluded a bit to it in being open about my lack of knowledge on this truck, especially with a background more in Toyotas. This as well being my first dual battery set up. I do like that you a forward with that knowledge though because you've grounded me pretty well in that my understanding here doesn't lend well to deduction based off older tech set ups.

None the less there are some well tenured brains here for just this matter. Which when balanced with patience makes this place useful and great. Honestly it's quite the departure from my time with Tacomaworld and I never turn down being back in the position of a student.

I know who ill be messaging for help though lol.

In regard to the aux, if it is dead does it not draw the main at all?

I assume this would only present then if the main was old and low as well. With plenty of half truths here i may have digested some shoddy logic.

Turns out you’re brilliant & I now have a lost morning, an extra Z fuse, and most importantly, a running truck again! The winch was what I thought it was, but I’d removed the main negative (I guess) instead of the Aux negative (though I was sure I did that & then drove it). So it looks like the main negative is the one that’s easily removable & requires a 13mm wrench while the aux negative takes a 10mm, but has no real way to remove it as it’s part of the whole bit that clamps onto the battery post. Jeep REALLY wants to keep selling batteries, I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️

Don't worry it's not a bad idea to have it in the glove box when/ if it gets fried.

Hey all, hope you can help! Truck is COMPLETELY dead, no lights opening door, no dash lights or anything when trying to start.

So I had gotten a new battery, deleted the aux battery & heat shrink & taped up the ground for it. Truck was running well, but still had some parasitic draw, which seemed to be coming from my winch. Removed the winch negative (positive is already on a shut off switch) BUT bumped the negative battery post & got a spark. Battery is still good at 12.97V, all the fuses & relays seem to be good, the BIG fuses running off the main battery to the buss bar on the engine side of the fuse box are giving me continuity with a multimeter. ANY ideas on what else I should be checking please & thank you so much I love this thing & won't even move :/

There are many ways for a battery to go.
It MAY draw the main, or may not.
On the other hand - the main battery is pretty much as likely to go as the auxiliary battery.
People have the idea "the aux always goes and takes down the main".
Not necessarily true.
The aux may go and not bother the main.
The aux may go and take down the main.
The main may go first and not bother the aux.
The main may go first and also take down the aux battery.

I've worked with big equipment (tractors, etc.) that had 12v batteries in parallel and you didn't have the amperage for cranking that big engine because one of the batteries was dead, but the other fine, and you replaced the bad battery and moved on.
