Before I get started I am inclined to try bags first assuming I can find the right bag that fits...
Currently running AEV dual sport RT with the standard duty 2.5" springs.
I am in the weight category to justify their HD 3" springs (which support 700#'s over stock, which is basically the axle weight rating).
My concern with just switching to the HD springs is they may be too stiff when not loaded for a week long camping trip. My weight, unloaded, puts me in the upper limit for the SD springs, but provides for a nice plush ride on and off road - my preference due to body problems.
So I was considering trying bags first, to see what that would feel like, and if it will give the extra stiffness when loaded I need without the extra stiffness when unloaded. Cost isn't really important as springs are only $600.
But I dont know which bags to try with a lift. Several here have played around with things but I have seen a wide range options and can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for - which airbag will work with a 2.5" lift spring. I believe the inside diameter of the AEV SD springs are the same as the stock rubicon springs, but would have to go measure to verify.
Any suggestions? There is talk about gladiator bags being smaller/narrower than Ram 1500 bags, but also another bag option that has 'softer' rubber than the Ram 1500 bags, etc... All sorts of options. It is also important to choose a bag that can be inserted into the spring WITHOUT removing the spring. If springs have to be removed, I mine as well just go for the upgraded springs.
