We watched "Forgotten Tragedy: The Story of the St. Francis Dam" on Amazon and we live close by, so, we went to take a look. It was some really great fun ! It is cool to find some of the concrete ruins down stream of the Dam disaster. Here are some pics and video.
here is the old road that was built after the dam broke at the bottom of the St. Francis Reservoir
Here is where the dam broke. You can see the scrapings on the mountain where the concrete was attached, and debris all over the ground.
Here is a big piece of rebar sticking out of the concrete that used to be part of the Dam
Another piece of concrete from the dam with rebar
Some trees down stream of the dam disaster that look like they were leveled at the same time and grew back with new branches.
Some fire roads not far from the Dam
Here is a pic of the ridge we climbed. Quite the pucker climb and descent. I only have a video coming down. Going up was a white knuckler.
Video of coming down the ridge -- 2nd gear low lock - manual tranny.
