I want my COVID vacation damnit!
This always gets under my skin, like nobody who isn't in the office is working. When covid hit, I went from one or two days a week in the office to zero, but my days went from 8-10 hours to 12-16 hours, working nights, working weekends. I work in health tech, so we were burning midnight oil to make the software more streamlined for covid cases, and specifically to make it faster to turn over hospital beds in Florida when people died, all while DeSantis was on TV saying that it was all a big hoax and nobody was actually dying.

Yep. In my state, all you had to do was claim that you were financially impacted by the lockdowns to collect the $600 per week. I didn't do it because I felt I would have been freeloading even though I qualified. In hindsight, I was the fool not to claim it. I would have received a couple years worth of $600 per week.
Yeah, here in Tennessee, we really had no lockdowns. I know several business owners who raked in some bucks on the PPP "loans", but it was really business as usual, unless you were a student or a teacher or federal government employee. They printed and pumped $8 trillion into the economy, much of which was stolen or misappropriated. Inflation caused by this infusion of cash was incredible, and now we're paying the price. I'm 55 and probably won't see a dime from social security. If that happens, there WILL be a revolution, and it won't be peaceful.

There are few things that I own that I know for a fact are American-made. My Hank's belt is one of them, and I own three!
Where did the leather come from? Thread? Buckle? Metal to make the buckle? Tools to make the buckle? Sewing machine? Packaging? Transport and stuff to transport it?

On and on and on and on..

Long term, maybe it's some huge win for America, maybe not, short term.. It's going to be pandemonium, 1000 Stellantis workers lost their jobs today, on day 1... That's not going to get better soon.

Yup, pretty terrible how certain partisan hacks spun a disease to rally their own causes. I know personal anecdotes don't always equal facts...but everyone I know that went from office to working at home actually works way more at home.

I'm just finding out that a lot of people stayed home during COVID. A guy I work with drew over $1200 a week for two years on unemployment. I worked every day, in the office. I must be stupid. I want my COVID vacation damnit!
I hear ya…. I did the same thing!!!
I’m still puzzled how the printing industry stayed OPEN the whole time. Seriously? Printing catalogs is an essential business?

Not to mention the intentional destruction of the stock market. Convenient for the billionaire class though. Easy for them to mop up cheaper stocks now.

uh, could it be that Stellantis is doing this because of the past 12 months of horrible business decisions? They haven't exactly been doing well in the last several months. This year is nothing new to them, and nothing to do with anything except their own issues at the top - and what the UAW did last year or so.

That sucks for the workers. I work in manufacturing as well and Iam optimistic we can begin to right this ship but that won't come without some hard times unfortunately.
Stellantis is still trying to recover from over a year of problems. This isn't political at all. It was piss-poor management (aside from the UAW raping them). IT takes a long time for things to trickle down. That this is happening at this time is pure coincidence. It's been in the air for a good year or so. Ram sales down huge, Gladiator sales down - is this the fault of anyone outside of Stellantis?

Again, I have parts that cross NAFTA borders, 6, 7 times before they land in Windsor to be built into a vehicle, then shipped back to the states for sale.

When the world gets crazy, businesses lock down, stop spending money.

Been a long time coming - with a very mis-managed company. Funny thing - 6 to 8 months ago people were blaming the leadership at Stellantis. now they are blaming someone else. Hmmmm - did Stellantis management suddenly turn the company around on a dime and has everything under perfect control? I doubt it.

BINGO !!!

This was going on long before tariffs were brought up but certain media outlets and politicians want to put the blame somewhere else to push their political narrative.

Chicken Little called and wants his story line back.

From what I have read Stellantis has plenty of space in the US to make Ram trucks and the Jeep compass here instead of mexico. There will be pain with the tariffs but in the long run when companies start making things here it will be better.

Literally had a 200,000 piece a year program withheld, today, because they want to in source it in Canada 😂

But sure, it's leadership now.
