As noted, the problem of using sliders as steps is you do not accomplish much. My wife is maybe 5'3" with short legs and when the lift and 37s went on, I had to give her a boost to get in, lol. I got to make fun of her for having trouble getting in her own Jeep until she put her foot down and went to my Jeep shop to "fix that s**t" Haha

My Jeep builder convinced us that the AMP XLs were a better choice over RSE because the step is so much wider and is the total length of the cab. I was concerned they could take a beating until he showed me his massive Gladiator that had them. His AMPs were riddled with scars from serious wheeling. He had beat the hell out of them and never had an issue.

In the end, we went with the AMP XLs and they are one of my favorite mods (shh, don't tell my wife).
I was originally concerned about the length of the RSE steps until having them on both of our Jeeps and I realize that unless you are built really weird, you can't possible step on or even need what isn't there. I'm never even close to the ends getting in or out. Even turning and sliding out, you can't miss the step because it's just not possible to try to exit where there's no step and trying to get in where the step ends you'd run into something else.
In short, I find I'm never even close to the ends of the steps no matter what I'm doing.
My wife wishes they were even a bit shorter when getting things into and out of the back door. She's short and her arms are short and don't bend like ours so getting things in and out of the back seat area means a wider or longer step would be in the way. She hits her shins - as most people shorter than us would do.
So for us- perfect choice. Anything wider or longer would be a waste and in the way.
I can even stand on them to reach the roof for cleaning.

I saw another brand recently announced here and have great concerns about those - not attaching to frame points, just not nearly as strong, major concerns about mounting and the motor system on those others.

If someone was married to, loved, lived with, anyone with a handicap or other issues, they'd see how utterly ridiculous that really is. It's like suggesting a person missing an arm simply move closer to the item to be picked up.
To my wife it would be a literal insult.

Completely agree. With your points on their length and usability, and your point regarding needless trolling. If someone isn’t interested in power steps, and most people probably aren’t, just skip the threads discussing them. I could easily troll all the diesel problem threads and post pictures of the 3.6, but that would be a dick move.

I didn't mean to be so crass, but I have the same issue and was offering a solution. The enclosed pics are what I use for my wife. I refuse to add 'low hanging' items to the truck that could be picked off by a rock outcropping. I had a Tundra with steps that got surgically removed on an outcropping rock and that ended any future granny steps. So the Gladiator is clean and the steps 'needed' are laying flat in the truck bed (out of the way of ground obstacles) till needed.

For the uninformed, sure it looks like trolling but it isn't.

Good news is this mod only costs about $8 at Harbor Freight. And, if you forget it somewhere you can always get another one...

The problem is - you have to do something at each end - home and destination. Destination could be a gas station, grocery store, friend's house, rest area, whatever. So you use a step, get in - now what? Step is sitting out there down below the truck... leave it?
Ya can't reach down to grab it, then you are in the driver's seat and even if you could (I could not bend down and get it), then what - you have it in your lap now.
So, the solution had to be something that helps you get in, get out, and not be in the way otherwise, and something you don't have to try to reach down to grab and toss somewhere in the cab once you get in, or then reach to grab and set down on the ground to step onto when you get to where you are going.

It did look like it. Sorry if I mistook your statement. But the solution for many needs to work if that person is the only one in the vehicle. They can’t feasibly go to the back and get the step they needed in the first place to get out. And what if four people are in the vehicle? I usually have myself, my wife, and two young kids in the back. I’m certainly not going to walk a stool around like the kids are taking turns cooking in the kitchen. :). For some of us, this is the perfect and only solution, even if it’s expensive. And they don’t hang any lower than the stock rubicon rails on trails. And they protect the jeep WAY better. No low hanging fruit, the stick out sideways far enough to be partial mud flaps for the front tires, and they’re rock sliders. What’s not to like, other than cost?

Just as wide as the steps on many step ladders, and go back plenty far - no need to go back farther as the door opening doesn't go back any farther.
Even if you were a dog or a kid looking to jump right onto the seat, it's there.

No need to go further forward as you are stepping into the cab, feet onto the floor. You aren't climbing onto the dash or over the steering wheel. Why would it need to be further forward.

Step is wide enough to be comfortable even if you are barefoot or wearing sandals.

And no need to lean over to grab something or set something on the ground. That little round silver thing under the door's latch is a strong magnet (don't believe they are strong? Just try to get two of them apart)
