Reading through my owners manual, it says only the center dash port is usable for data, the rest of the USB ports are charging only. So, even if I got one of those wireless Android Auto adapters, I'd still have to have it hanging out of the dash, vs. putting it in the console?

Asking for a friend who really hates wires and cables in his nice clean interior.

I also like a clean interior. I can't speak to any adapters, but I run a USB cable to my center console, from which I use Android Auto for my Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Data and all other functions work just fine. I have also tried it from the center console, and it works the same. My recollection (when I read the owner's manual) is that for the rear ports, the left can be used for charging/data, and the right is charging only (I think). I have a 2020 Overland, but don't know if charging/data options are different on other models.

I've got my AAwireless adapter in the bottom of my armrest console connected to the USB port there. Works fine and I can use the dash console port to charge without issue.

Mine has the ports in the back of the console facing the back. AA works in a couple, the others are charge only. Otherwise all USB ports in my truck are data and charge, but at the rear of the console there's charge only.
I suppose so back seat passengers can charge their phones or whatever and not connect to the system otherwise.

Since I don't use it often I leave it disconnected. I thought I recalled it continually searching for the phone and didn't want to effect the battery when the vehicle is turned off?

I believe they've fixed that as they added a function for have it stop checking for connection after a short period once the vehicle is turned off.

Thanks guys for all your input. Not sure why the manual (yes I RTFM) says only that one port can be used for data.

I plan on getting the adapter and just leaving it in the console then, but all of the ones I see recommended here (AAwireless, Carsifi or something like that) aren't actually in production, they're on some sort of a fund-raising website with months lead time, assuming you get it at all.

And again, yes I search.

So I have ANDROID. What adapters work well for Android Auto and I can actually just go and buy them? And not wait for some dude in a garage to raise enough money to buy another roll of solder and make 3 or 4?

Through the search the only other one I saw recommended was on Amazon, looked OK to me, however it said nothing about Android. It only said Apple in the ad, all the pics were Apple. So I don't want to go drop $100 to find out it won't work with my phone.

There are several on Amazon, all around the same price, however I haven't found any of them mentioned here and I'd just like that warm-fuzzy.

Thanks guys!

I have AAWirelsss which does have a lead time. It's solid, the developer is well respected and he is up front about progress with a liberal refund policy.
