So must have bounced too much. My tailgate is stuck locked until it warms up enough for me take panel off and manually flip it to the unlock position. Now I don't know if that damn piece of plastic that slips off has been lost or not. So will be buying a control unit for the one piece again. This is my third time rebuilding this lock...

Is there an easy to install aftermarket option out there? I'm of the mind to not use that lock anymore as that piece falls off when off roading it seems? But I'm not really finding any options for an aftermarket tailgate lock. Maybe searching for it wrong.

There is a recall for the tail gate lock. Believe it's ZE2.

That recall isn't for the manual only tailgate lock it looks like. So doesn't look like it applied to my year and trim. Thought maybe when I saw that... but oh well.

It was allegedly replaced once, but considering the problem child piece has failed twice after that... Not sure the dealership actually replaced the part. I fixed it the 2nd time by just re-seating the problem child piece. Have a feeling that is all the dealership did instead of replacing the entire unit.

It's a $30 part shipped so not that big of a deal, just something simple that should have failed three times on me. Last time it stayed fix for a long time just by re-seating it. So I will take the time once it warms up and once I have a minute to replace the entire control unit for the tailgate.

Also it was below 0 with the wind chill at the time this failed, locking me out of the tailgate, finding out the tonneau coever is bit more secure then I thought and wasn't feeling like numbing my hands taking the tonneau cover apart in a parking lot. So begrudgingly shoved two bails of straw in the back seat... some context before I made my original post.

So got around to opening the tailgate up. The controller had sheared apart. So wasn't lock failure, it was the control unit broke and wasn't unlatching the tailgate period. Ordered, received and installed for $38 and about a
20 minute job. So have full functional tailgate again.
