Tapping into 3rd brake light

I am installing a custom lighted emblem on the tailgate substituting the JEEP lettering. It is one tiny led. I’m assuming I can tap directly into the power and ground wire going to the 3rd brake light. Any reason to not to this or adverse effects?

From my experience tapping into the reverse lights and license plate lights, you should not have any real problem scabbing in a low amp draw LED. There may be a pending but never posting code for the brake light though in the BCM.

Shouldn't be an issue. We offer an LED wheel ring for the spare that taps into the 3rd brake with no issues.

A little late for the OP, but for others wanting to fix the "bikes blocking the lights" issue a simple fix you can just use cargo box LED lights if you have the trailer package on your vehicle with the plugs. I've been using the ROLA 59516 LED Light Kit for ROLA Railed Cargo Carrier for about 6 years (on multiple trucks) and just zip-tied them to my bike rack, just plugs into my 4 pin.
