Tar Patch over right bumper bracket bolt ?? From assembly Line ?

Why is there a patch over the right front bumper bracket bolt and not left side ? Doesn’t make sense ? Hope it wasn’t supposed to be covering wiring plug right next to it ? It is in wheel well where it could get a lot of crap on it. Anybody else’s like this ? I’ll check. Dealers lot tomorrow they have a bunch of Jeep gladiators now……only 2200 miles so just thinking too much I guess.

Mine had the same thing. Not exactly sure what it is for, maybe to keep the fog light wiring from chafing against the chassis. Either way, I removed it and got rid of that plug when I re-wired my fog lights.

That connector is normally exposed, not covered. All connectors are sealed type. Mine has never gotten nasty.
I wonder if they slapped that piece over the connector to protect it while doing some other fix or process at the factory - sometimes they go back to take care of something that failed inspection...
I can just imagine them slapping that on the connector to cover it while doing something else and it never got removed.

Two of my three Gladiators had the same thing. I cannot remember if they were on the frame or covering the fog light disconnect? Either way they were barely holding on and fell off when I changed my front bumper.

Mine has it in the exact same place and orientation. Wiring over top…I assumed it was stuck there to protect wiring from bolt head. The “tar” was not exposed, more of a cushion.

That's the Max Tow patch. If you pull it off you lose capacity.

Assembly line would be right - and the term "abrasion protection" is in thinking on it likely it.
2020 Overland - no such "patch"
2022 Overland - no such "patch"
A mix here of JTs with patch, with no patch, and with patch sort of just hanging in there near that connector.
Scenario -
Bumper assembly guided onto frame with assistance of robotic arm.
Connector for fog lights connected.
Patch put over connector.
Nuts installed by gun.
Patch is no longer needed - may stay, may fall off, may kind of fall off.

Is that close, is that a possibility?? Would it make sense?
Their gun to install those big nuts would possibly contact the connector and being plastic, anything spinning against it would, yeah, result in abrasion.
