I currently have the Willys 17 X 7.5 black wheels on my rig. I’d like to upgrade to these Fuel Unit D785s
Jeep Gladiator Tire/Wheel Size Question 3E80B806-FCC0-4DBB-977C-97C177660199

These are 17 X 9’s. Will my BFG MT 255/75/17’s fit these? I’m happy with these tires that came with the truck. May upgrade tires later after I add the Mopar lift, so I’d prefer to keep the 32’s for now.

I can’t answer with experience, but discount tire list’s the rim width range for the BFG MT in that size at 6.5”-9”, so at the very least they’d mount them for you. I was running 315/70s (listed rim width range 7.5-11) on the stock 7.5 rim for a few weeks, other end of the spectrum from what you’re looking at. I was worried about funky wear on the narrow rim, I’d assume you could run into a similar issue being almost too wide.

edit to add those are going to look great on your JT! I like the color combo.

Thanks for the info. I found a chart online that said the preferred range for a 9” wide rim is 245-255mm. 255mm is 10”. When I convert my tire size to inches, it’s 32 x 10. So, yeah looks like it’s on the max end of the fitment spectrum. I don’t know anything about tires, so I just want to confirm they will fit fine. I agree, I think its going to look pretty good!

I had 245/75 on 8-1/2” rims, and they looked and worked fine. Your 255/75 should be OK on 9”.
I’d be more concerned about any offset difference.

Thanks for the info. They can be ordered with an offset of 1mm or -12mm. No idea what would be best.

Either of those options would be good. The 1mm offset is still pretty good for lift kits that don't give you crazy flex so if your plan is to do the mopar lift and be done forever I would go with that. If you wanted a more comprehensive lift that gave you a lot more flex I would go the -12mm option.

Yeah, my plan is to just do the Mopar lift and maybe add larger tires down the road. I don’t really feel I’d ever need more than that for my intended use. Thanks for the info!

So I’m comparing the available offsets for these wheels now. They come in +1mm or -12mm. The factory wheels are +44.45mm offset. I’d also be going from a wheel width of 7.5” to 9”. Backspacing on factory wheel is 6”. If I go with the -12mm offset the backspacing is only 4.53” or 5.04” if I go with the +1mm offset. Either way, they’re definitely shifting the wheel outward. This calculator I found online shows the outward shift would be 2.89” for the -12mm offset

or 2.39” for thr +1mm offset

I’m surprised to see changing the wheels to these would possibly push them out from under the fender so much. Am I thinking about this correctly?

Dude. Those look amazing! Which offset did you decide on? I am in the exact same boat. Want to run the 32 MTs until I can save to get 35s and a 3.5" lift (don't come at me with the tire size vs lift BS... It won't look any different than the height of my standard JT with 32s). Anyway, I was afraid of a 9 with 255s but it works and looks awesome! You've given me the confidence to pull the trigger!
