Factory spare, no.

If you go with aftermarket wheels and go with a 5 tire rotation, while in the spare position the sensor won't read. Once installed and a few rotations it will start reading.

I’m actually replacing my alloy wheels with a set of spare steelies. Trying figure out if I need to have one the of the sensors installed in my current spare.

Yes only if you want to rotate 5 and know the PSI. If not then no. If you don’t mind the tire light you don’t need any.
