I've found a 2020 Gladiator that I'd like to buy at a dealership that is about 6 hours away. I want to swap out the wheels & tires from my 2010 JKU. The dealership said they will swap them but I would need to pay to have new sensors installed on both the JT and on my JKU for a cost of around $500.
I'm guessing the TPMS sensors will not be compatible. My question is, can I run the Gladiator back home without issue other than the dash warning I would expect?

I think I may be able to get them cheaper here and can swap them out on the Gladiator when home. Or should I pay the money?

Thanks

The problem is, it's illegal, against federal law, for any dealer or shop or business to knowingly send someone on the road with a non-functional TPMS.
So if your dealer is aware of that fact, they won't to the swap because it would disable TPMS on two vehicles.
I traded vehicles and wanted my tires and wheels on my new JT and bit the bullet and paid to have them done, otherwise, they said "no, can't do it". And they were correct.
Granted, some dealerships are ignorant of many things so might do it, but.........
If the dealer lets you go - I'd never go back to them as they are willing to cheat and break laws.
If they insist, I'd be using their shop again.

I'd try for that - they have leeway on the sensors so IMO they could cut the cost of those and not lose a dime. The shop rate is a bit tougher because dealerships are operated as different entities - the sales department actually has to pay for shop work when getting things done like this. Still, you have some leverage in a way.

Thanks, I was thinking that there would be some wiggle room in pricing for sure

So I sent the sales person a text about possibly "splitting the difference" on the TPMS for my JK, I would pay for the Gladiator.
His response:
"We can't cover any of the cost, as that would be considered a form of negotiating".
My reply was, "so dealerships do not negotiate on the price of cars now?"
His response:
"That's correct. We have been a best price company for over 2 decades".

That's fine, its nearly 6 hours away anyway. I'll hold out for something closer.
