No one would do that here - the tax difference would be crazy.
Even if you can get 2 or 3K more in private sale than trading it in, if you are trading, take the trade number. The tax more than makes up that difference.

It is the same in TX with the taxes. However, I was looking for a Diesel with certain options and I couldn't find one that I wanted at a dealer lot and a fully loaded used one came up in my price range plus it had tons of extras that I wanted so in this case it was worth it for me to go used private sale vs new with the trade-in incentives.
