I am actually a huge fan of the factory nav system, and I don't like the fact that when I go on Android Auto, google maps automatically opens and starts running, which also wastes my phone's battery life (I have a Carsifi wireless AA adapter). I can obviously go in the settings and select / deselect which apps show up on AA, but Google Maps is not available for selection - it's listed but there's no tickbox next to it. I can't even seem to shut it down or close it once it auto-starts. Anything I can do to shut down Maps but still have my AA automatically start up?

Thanks,
D

You may be able to remove the google maps app from the android auto available apps. You need to be connected to the radio though. I remember i removed a few apps I didn't want to get notifications from while driving.

You can remove every app... Except maps, phone, and settings. You're stuck with maps

OK thanks guys.

I googled it (ironically) and I saw somewhere you can turn off automatic driving mode in Maps and that might keep it from turning on, I'll see what happens when I get out of work.

Unfortunate as I am not a fan........... waze is my go-to app on the phone (yeah, even though Giggle owns it they haven't raped and destroyed it .......... yet)
I suppose since the AA is a Google app, in exchange for providing it they shove maps in your face and force it to stick.

I'd be just as happy with AA if all it did was my music, Amazon stuff (like my Amazon music library or Amazon music) and waze and not much of anything else.
Giggle maps doesn't show enough map, they don't let my customize the screen and get rid of that stuff on the left - unless I'm missing something. I want the map full screen and other stuff tidy off to the side.

EXACTLY. Doesn't show enough map....there's so many extra bars and boxes that it's completely crowded out. It's like that SNL sketch a few years back of the newscasters completely obliterated by scrolling bars and such.

Not a fan of waze either...WILL NOT STFU.

I use AA for the same stuff, my music and that's it. Text messages seems a little more driver-friendly and reliable, too.

I LOVE the factory nav system. Love it. Couldn't be better. Hopefully that setting I changed a little bit ago works. I'll update later if it does.

Dang, I missed that one - will have to see if it's on YT! My wife and I always gripe about all of those logos, scrolls and ads they keep putting on the screen and you miss the action behind them all.

Will keep an eye out for what you find. Sounds like we have the same thoughts on this.

I prefer the system NAV - although sometimes it takes us on joy rides and over closed bridges........ but I prefer it to Google maps with all the crap on the screen.

Well, what I found didn't work. It was basically going into Maps on the phone and deselecting driving mode, which seemed hopeful but no dice. It didn't come up as soon as AA connected on the screen, but as soon as I went to AA there it was. Also the little location thingy showed on my phone the whole time. That's the killer for me, people always talk about how wireless AA kills phone batteries so much you basically have to leave them plugged in, and that's why - because it's constantly running a nav app you don't want or need running anyway.

I also tried changing my phone's location settings in Maps to "only when app is running" hoping that might hobble it but no dice.

Guess we're stuck with it.

That's from last year - hopefully it will happen but the speed of Google isn't impressive. They've taken months to resolve browser issues.
I have a bridge right in front of my house that's been closed for three years now and Google Maps refuses to believe us. Delivery guys have to park on the far side of the bridge and walk to our house. Something tells me we won't see that update anytime soon.

Google used to tell me to get from Des Moines to St. Louis, I should drive to Peoria, IL first.......
I usually double-check Google against other sources. It was WAAAY wrong on our timing from home to CO.
But the part that bugs me most is the stuff they put on the screen and don't allow you to move out of the way, the map is such a small part of the screen.
