you will still get the popping with a cv. Its because of the center diff being locked, not because of the U Joints. If it was because of the u joints, it would happen in 2wd as well, but it doesnt.

Again, the U-Joint will give a cyclical kickback as angular velocity increases and decreases through the rotation across the union.

That is in addition to the binding of the whole drivetrain as wheel velocity differences get evened out with the tires skidding on a surface with traction. CV = constant velocity, and Birfields have the same characteristic.

And your "cross" type is almost like looking at an AC (alternating current) sine wave as far as the velocity. This is where you get vibrations in a short driveshaft where the angles don't nearly cancel each other out.
I can be off more with my Javelin driveshaft than someone with a Jeep can as longer shafts are more forgiving.
The Eagle front axle CV joints can take hellish angles, there's idiots that lift these things 2 and 3" and although they suffer other issues, the axles hold up reasonably well. (although many of us tell them they are idiots for doing so on an IFS vehicle and they DO come back bitchen' that things broke) Boots do give out more quickly and you don't want so much as a small slice in those things.
