I think you are probably correct. In going back through all the paperwork, I do not see anything about Guardian, but if I look at a vehicle that has the 8.4" it shows Guardian. I am wondering why they setup the account and turned it on since they have the vin and should be able to see the options on the vehicle. I can understand having the buttons at the top of the windshield as it was most likely a cost effective decision rather than building one with the buttons. However, why would they put the buttons on the 7" screen if not available? That is a simple user interface fix with software and wouldn't require different hardware. This is confusing at best and the dealer is obviously clueless when it comes to the difference.....I’ll have to check that.

Hi lotecredneck,I recently bought a new Gladiator and it has the 7" screen with SXM and also the guardian system. The dealer nor SXM can get the Assist or SOS working! Each one blames the other so I get nowhere. My question is this... when you push the assist or SOS button on either the roof or screen should you get some sort of message even if the system is not activated? When I push the buttons on the roof absolutely nothing happens and when I push either on the screen it just flashes red for a second and that's it. I don't know who to believe as to why it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

They just bought it, and no, you do not need the XM radio service to use the guardian. They are totally different entities (I found that out when I asked the guardian support about my radio question! She informed me - different company under the same umbrella)If you don't have the both services I don't think it will work. There has to be an acct. For Uconnect and Travelink etc.. AT&T wifi I don't think has anything to do with the SOS button as at times I have not paid my AT&T wifi service on time and the SOS button will still work .
I dont know just rambling. I would guess if all services are up and going then . Disconnect the battery wait a couple minutes . Then see if it all links together. I remember (and still have issues at times) that when the AT&T wifi problem was happening they suggested to disconnect the battery for a minute then reconnect just make sure vehicle is turned off and not running. . Also the vehicle while in the run position with the radio on if you push both side dials in at the very same moment and hold for 17-20 seconds and then let off it will reset the head unit ? I used to do this all the time to get the wifi to come back on. It will go off and after a few seconds boot back up . Keep the ignition on. Yes the radio can be reset while the engine is running.
I am beginning to question whether the 7" Uconnect actually has Guardian. The touch buttons are present on the Apps screen and the buttons are present at the top of the windshield, but neither work..... I am now waiting on @JeepCares to answer me back.Seems like several didn't read the OPs message - it's a just bought vehicle. It has both services by default for xx months.
So it should all work at least for now.
And no, if he wants to keep guardian after the trial period, he does not need to subscribe to satellite radio.
And you can get radio service without guardian. All called Sirius but one is XM and the other is guardian, different companies under Sirius corporate.
it looks to me like the vehicle info has quit updating for a lot of people. Mine quit a few weeks ago and it looks like I need to contact whoever’s in charge of it to see what’s up. Well good luck to you. I just checked mine and still no change. The only time mine has updated was when I got my vehicle health report, and even then the date was way off.so I’ve been in contact with the uConnect app tech service.
after a few back and forth they recommended that I switch to the brand specific app because, as was mentioned earlier, they are discontinuing the uConnect app and moving to brand specific.
Since I was already using the Jeep app with the same results and had uninstalled that and reinstalled with no change they collected some of my vehicle and account information. This was on Friday. This evening (Sunday), at 5:30 pm my vehicle info updated in the app. The first since August 6th. I don’t know if this was due to something the tech help did or if it just happened on its own. I expect I will find out this week coming up once my contact is back in the office if he’s lucky enough to have the weekend off. I’m also interested in finding out if a three week server update is going to be normal going forward or if they’ll be updating the info in the app at least a few times a day.
