Hello Forum,

I was wondering if anyone knew or knows of how to overcome the potential difficulty in finding ULDS in developing countries. I have a JT eco diesel and I am planning a few months journey through Central America. My understanding is that they are moving to ULDS but I cannot guarantee it will always be available. Thoughts? Can you treat high sulfur diesel so that it can run in these newer EPA friendly engines?

From my understanding, to run non-ULSD, the exhaust SCR system would need to be bypassed but the exhaust DPF and DEF system would be ok. I recall bypassing the SCR requires reprogramming the computer to avoid MIL lights, which no one is willing to do after the EPA crackdown.

However, apparently if you have proof you’re exporting the vehicle to a foreign country, the EPA allows shops in the US to defeat the emissions.

I was down there in March of last year. I’d recommend not taking anything of significant value for quite some time. It’s gone from mostly sketchy to downright dangerous

What causes you to reconsider? We have travelled to Belize every year, pre-Covid, and know a lot of people there now. We absolutely love it.
