mine was on for a while... when i had it at the stealership for the jeep wave oil change he looked and said that just the battery needed a charge. he also said those start stop batteries are only good for about 2 years, lucky if you get 3 out of them....

ESS not working—different from ESS not ready. See your dealer if it does it again or your Auto Start Stop fails to regularly work. ESS should be ASS (Auto Start/Stop). Could be a vacuum pump or other sensor issue, once that gets fixed the system needs a flash to wipe the condition.

So given today's climate,...no pun intended, but the fact there are supply issues, I'm scart. I just got two new issues besides the ESS malfunction, now, I got a new symbol plus a message stating my cruise control was unavailable. and,...see photo, don't like to see symbols of engines. LUCKILY I have an appt Thursday with dealership.

If during a cold start the initial attempt fails with the dash going blank and then it starts on the second try, the ESS warning light means the aux battery failed it's cold start test. If the ESS warning turns on while driving it means the ESS system was disabled due to a non-ESS related issue like an engine error.

Mine just started getting the ESS warning light while driving due to the P300 misc misfire issue and is in the shop waiting for a camshaft per TSB 18-024-21.

My wife left the truck in gear and just hit the start button (she drives a prius, and it will go into park automagically when you shut it down) one night and came out to a dead battery. Jumped it and was fine, but the light remained on. Took to dealer a month or so later, and they tested and charged both batteries, found no issues with them, but had to clear the code to get the system working again.
