If you’ve been in that hot tub you’ve got more experience with it then probably most of us here.
this is the first time I’ve seen that hole so I’m analyzing the thing by looking at the videos.
I can see among other things that the wheel spin is pushing the front to the right and into that bump at the top right and causing uneven tire contact which makes it harder to get out.
We’re only seeing the part Of the video with the equipment failure but it wouldn’t surprise me if that driver had made a few attempts and realized he had to get a certain amount of momentum to make it all the way up. Unfortunately the momentum put too much pressure on the ball joint and it gave way.
I’m new to 4x4 off road and rock crawling but I’m learning to read the lines and find a good path while having a lot of toe curling fun in the process. ??
the hop pulls the wheel off teh ground allowing it to free spin the makes contact with the ground. That impact on the ball joint is never good and Is probably what caused the joint to snap. Then snowballed into the rest pretty rapidly. Plus if thats how he was wheeling prior to dipping into the tub that ball joint was probably already compromised. I don't have much experience but speed isn't unusually the answer. If he creeped it out slowly he may have made it. But we will never know LOL

I've never seen anyone crawl that tub. It's steep. For my money, my Gladiator (or my 1 ton "CJ" ) has no business being in that tub. Not worth the cash.

There are likely some comp buggies and drivers that could crawl it but I am not sure you'll see those on Hell's Revenge any time soon. Their place is an open travel area like Sand Hollow

I have never seen the obstacle so i have no real opinion on how to do it properly. Loud tires and a heavy pedal get the crowd fired up for sure.

Crawling out or throttling out? If you're talking about the crawling one, I think that's Richard Mick in an 4 door TJ in a totally different hot tub.

That's the way out of the Devil's Hot Tub. There's a bit of room at both tubs for spectators but it starts to slope off pretty severely pretty quickly. That trail is definitely "high traffic" so people need to keep a path through for other users

Devil's is right at top past the "Car Wash" (the most mild "tub"). Mickey hot tub is just before the "Dragon's Tail" as you come down the slick rock. Once down, you cross the famous SlickRock Bike trail and head towards Escalator and Tip Over Challenge.

I posted this up earlier about the tub locations.

awesome. I have been to Moab once to hike Arches NP. I had an Xterra at the time. I lived not to far away in Kayenta, AZ for almost 10 years and only been to moab once LOL. I like to wheel but not at teh expense (if avoidable) of my vehicle.

.... I think the driver explained it well when he stated that he had it floored! .... shits gonna break son
He also asked Rory how to avoid the ball joints popping out again, Rory said "stay off the big obstacles"
