I am going to disable ESS and am looking into the various ways to achieve this. In the JScan knowledge base (https://jscan-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/jeep/jeep.html), you not only have to change the software settings, but make a 'hardware' change as well. It says you have to disconnect the Hood Ajar sensor.

I have read several posts on the forums, and it seems like some people have not used JScan to disable ESS, maybe because they get a dash warning light?

Has JScan perhaps updated their firmware so now ESS can be fully disabled, with no warning lights, if you disconnect the hood ajar sensor? Maybe the posters here with the warning light were using an older JScan version??

Thank you :)

when i did this, it disabled my remote start bc the vehicle thought the hood was open. IDK if they fixed that, i have no revisited that function since last year. It did fix my ASS (auto start stop) though, just with a negative side effect.

secondly, it took me a STUPID amount of time to figure out THIS was why my remote start would not work.

I saw the same thing and I didn't want to unplug sensors or have a warning on the dash. In the end I went with an Autostop Eliminator (https://www.autostopeliminator.com/). It essentially just electronically pushes the button for you. So you can choose to re-nable ESS at the push of a button if you want. I rarely ever turn it back on, but at least it's an option.

It kind of makes my JScan purchase a bit less useful, but I already had a compatible OBD-II reader and security gateway bypass cable, so JScan was a cheap addition to the toolbox to make basic settings changes like tire size in the future. However, if you don't have anything yet, a Tazer Mini might be the better all-in-one device.

It's NOT possible using software like JSCAN, AlfaOBD and so on. There are no settings that can be changed.

Give up on any software fixes - can't happen because JSCAN can only do on/off true/false yes/no type of changes and there's no such setting in there.
Any talk of JSCAN being able to do it, any version, is incorrect.

I have the Stop Start Eliminator, $99. Better solution than mucking about disconnecting hood warning devices and it works great.

Thank you for mentioning this, because now I remember I have read about that as well! Some people say ESS doesn't play nice with remote start, but I saw at least one comment that said his remote start still works with ESS disabled. I need to find that thread again.

And every one of them is incorrect. ess has zip to do with remote start - not a thing.

It's only when they try to hack things and do this or that to disable ESS that they end up screwing up other things and then assume - oh ESS must have a problem with remote start.

Like Shadowpapa stated, it wasn’t ESS. I disabled the hood lock alarm which caused my remote start to no longer work and I still had to turn off ESS when I got in the jeep. My TAZER would keep it off, my JScan does not have that feature.
