Until today I haven't had to take my Jeeps for warrany service for about five years. In the past, I would explian what was wrong and request a rental and it was agreed. Today I was told the issue needs to be diagnosed and verified as a warrany issue before the dealer would authorize a rental. I'm still under factory warranty plus I've got Max Care. Am I getting hosed here or is this something new?

I've always been given a rental as well. Call Jeep, keep escalating until you get the yes (I only had to do that once with an airbag replacement).

Moot point for now. My problem (parking brake) was resolved in one day. Hopefully I won't need to test this in the future.

The local dealer here will waive the diagnostic fee if they determine it is a warranty issue. I have Max Care as well, and it entitles me to a rental or loaner car. Just recently, Jeep (check still says "FCA") reimbursed me for three weeks of rental fees while my Jeep was getting all four doors replaced and hood repainted. I paid $1800 for the extended warranty, and so far, Jeep has paid about $1200 in rental car fees and over $15,000 in repairs (steering box, head gasket, and corrosion). The actual repairs were still under the basic warranty. Only difference is the rental. Still a pain - having to take time off work, making calls, etc.

Glad your repair was quick. Yeah, hopefully you won't have to test it in the future.
