Decided to go with an Equal-i-zer WDH (model 90-00-1201) to put on my Carry-On 82” x 18’ tandem utility trailer. I use the trailer to haul a SXS and motorcycles out to the desert. The trailers GVWR is 7000 lbs which means the tongue weight could be as much as 1050 lbs if loaded within specs. Anyway, going through Equal-i-zer’s support page for the proper shank size https://www.equalizerhitch.com/find-your-shank-size, it suggests a 12” drop. My figures for the calculator are 3”, 21”, 13” respectfully. The 12” drop actually measures 17” long from the top on the receiver. The top of my receiver measures 21” from the ground (I have 35” tires and stock suspension). So that means the bottom of the shank will only be 4” from the ground!!!! That’s ridiculous. I will be dragging that thing everywhere! Currently I use a standard 8” drop hitch, which gives me about 11” clearance from the ground.
