Had this same thing happen to my daughter in her sportrak, the daughter of the owner was driving the car, the problem was that the daughter was excluded from the insurance and was not supposed to be driving it. I had full coverage on it so turned it into my insurance, value of the truck was about $6,500 and the damage was around $4,500, I was amazed that they fixed it but they did. I paid the deductible which my insurance tried to recover from the lady that was driving the other car but even 2 years after the accident I still get a letter about every 6 months telling me that they have not been able to recover the deductible.
