My wife and I rented a 17' Casita camper and went camping this weekend. First off, the Gladiator towed that little camper like it wasn't even there...

I'm not a duck fan at all, but I got ducked on Valentines Day; it was a pink duck covered in little red hearts. Goofy as all get out, but a nice gesture just the same.

The camper next to me came over and we started talking Jeeps. He's had many and he used to work for Chrysler. He asked me if I knew about the corrosion "issue" the doors/hinges/hood were having. I said I read of it, but I bought this 2023 used just last November. I said I knew of a little bubble issue on the edge of the hood, but it is what it is.

Here is where it became interesting. He said, "You have 5 years to make a claim, it transfers from owner to owner. I know exactly where to look. Mind if I look ?" I said have at it. He opened up each door and went RIGHT to a location. "Look, here. See that tiny bubble ?" And he had to point to it with a stick. He said when Jeep changed over to aluminum doors, they still used welders for steel. Galvanic corrosion of a type. Not only my hood, but 3 of my 4 doors and a few little bubbles by the welds.

I said I didn't want them to refinish the doors, the paint will never match. He said they don't repair anymore, they put on new factory painted parts. To repair/refinish would cost too many man-hours.

I may swing by the dealer tomorrow for a what's-up. Can't hurt.

What years are affected? I own a 2024.

Would you let us know where to look? I'm curious on mine. It stays pretty dirty, especially in the winter on this muddy gravel road.

It was a pretty simple check, actually. He opened each door then ran his fingers along the seam where the outer door metal skin was rolled over the inside metal of the door. You can visually see the welds. If there is ANY bubbling effect, there's your issue. He added all dealers "should be aware" of where to look, it's a common issue. I asked, "Isn't that just a sloppy weld ?", he smiled and said, "No.", a one word answer.

He said the doors were the most common location, but the door hinges came in a close second.
