*** canceld due to lack of interest ****
Anyone interested in doing a trip through Wharton State Forest in November?
I’ve been there a few times but I’m not super familiar with the “trails”.
The trails are generally pretty easy. Sandy soil, maybe some muddy puddles. Pin strips are a possibility if you are not careful. Lifts, lockers, ect not required.
It’s usually pretty quiet out there.

Nice! Are you familiar with the area? I’m trying to pick a meeting point

That’s what I figured. Been riding ATVs forever. This can’t be much different 🤷🏻‍♂️

I live in Ocean County, get out to Wharton semi-often. I'm not totally familiar with all the trails but with a map and my GPS I can get around okay. Probably the same boat as you.

The weekend of the 19th I'll be down in VA but any other time I'm down for sure. If anyone wants to go before that and get a lay of the land I would tag along.

Best places to meet are going to be the Atsion Office in Shamong because it has a direct entrance to the trails or probably the Wawa right there in Hammonton to fuel up and it's near Batsto Village which is a neat old historic site with a driving trail around the bogs.

I do not know the roads in that area. I do know the Pic a Lilli Inn has awesome she crab soup though. I have family not far from Batsto and also know the dirt/sand roads behind Batsto connect all the way over to Atsion. Either Bluebeard or Blackbeard (can’t remember which one) had a place near Sweetwater. You can get from there to the Atlantic Ocean pretty easily on the Mullins River.

Ok I going to give the OnX off-road app a go for Saturday, there is a mapped out route from Lake Atsion to Lake Oswego. I will probably make a return trip back through the forest with some amount of variations.

The route is rated 2 of 10, we will probably find some puddles and bumps but expect an easy go of it.

I’ll have some Bubba ropes and a high lift with me but I really don’t think we will need it.
A half tank of gas will be plenty.
I’m bringing a cooler with some snacks and drinks.
meet up location is the Wawa just south of the route starting location off route 206:
2 N White Horse pike, Hammonton NJ 08037
I’m thinking we should meet at 1030 to head off by 1100.
Please message me if you are interested in joining, I will reply with my phone number ( it’s a 207 area code ).

Atsion! Brings back memories of going to Atsion lake and off roading that entire area. There was a spot just north on the 206 we called the 1/4 mile guard rail break. It was an opening in the guard rail just north of the picklilli bar. LOTS of mud holes Where you need to be careful. You can get seriously stuck. Ask me how I know ;). Have fun, stay safe!

Damn! I didn’t think this was going to happen and now I am taking my grandson to two ice hockey games. I will hope to catch up next time.
