Since I can hit the cage without issue, as it’s being replaced, I’m going to put a big drift punch on the cage edge and tap with my 5lb.

There’s actually a snap ring in a groove on the shaft. It’s designed to break. Sometimes they break by simply removing the axle from the housing. I have 6 in a package, and I think the kit comes with them. Here’s a picture of the ring in the groove. That comes out and gets a new one before reassembly.

Installed my Armorlite flooring. It was eye opening when removing the factory floor how very little Jeep puts under the carpet by means of insulation/sound deadening.

Weight savings to keep up payload and towing.
It's a JT. Grand Cherokees will have more.
Padding in there would reduce payload.

I've got a good collection of snap ring tools. Picks and probes also often work to give them a lift for the snap ring tools to work.

I have zero doubt. I’d like to see your pile of tools. It’d put my collection to shame.

Could view it as being cheap or they accounted that it was a open air vehicle that could get rained on or washed over and did not want it to turn into a stinky mildew collection sponge.

I like the fact I can open the doors and wash it out........... last vehicle I had like that was a 1967 C20 with vinyl seat, no carpet, just a rubber floor mat.

Snap rings aside - would be fun to get together anyway as I'd love to see that ride of yours in person. Amazing, and what you've done with and to it, and can do with it.
