Snap rings aside - would be fun to get together anyway as I'd love to see that ride of yours in person. Amazing, and what you've done with and to it, and can do with it.
I’m a kid in a candy store, learning every time I touch it. I’ve never rebuilt axles. First time for everything. I’d absolutely love to get together sometime.

Cleaned up. I’ll build it after the kids are asleep. Or actually, I’ll wait until tomorrow so I can share the pics with RCV to get their opinion on condition. I think it looks great though.

Put on Method MR703 +25mm wheels, Flat Black. Running BFG KO3 285/75/17. Did the tranny oil change (at 75,000 miles) and then replaced the pan with a PPE Pan. Gotta love that it has a magnetic drain plug now……
I'm looking for an aftermarket (apparently MOPAR doesn't have these) oil pan drain plug that is magnetic. Will that PPE Pan plug (if sold separately) fit a stock JT oil pan, or is there anyone else on the forum who can/will recommend a magnetic drain plug? Since the dealer is about to open up my engine (cam kit replacement), I'd like a magnetic plug to assist in identifying any metal that may show up after the dealer closes up the engine.

It looks great but the ball bearing size in relationship to the ball bearing sockets . Probably a certian am9unt of play allowed .. wonder if new ball bearings are like 1thousands or 2 thousands bigger for a rebuild ? But I'm with you it looks unharmed . There was a very ample amount of grease in there .

I don’t. I’ve been using a valve since the 2nd oil change. But I’m guessing one exists.

Have them remove and wipe the pan clean and replace the oil pan seal !! And clean the sump screen !!

I’m all but positive the cage was worn, which is normal after 60k miles, or likely way fewer. I was able to get three of the six ball bearings out without a drift punch or hammer. I could rotate the cage with my fingers. I think the new stuff will go in with much smaller tolerances.

I wonder if there are magnets in the pan itself, like there are in the transmission pan.

They should . I am thinking the cage and balls are the wear items . The housing should be super hard.

I swear I have never heard anyone ask that. Great question. ! What would be wrong with putting one on the outside of the pan ?

They definitely are. You get new inner splines as part of the new cage, new balls, and a snap ring. I ordered new boots electively.

That’s a hell of an idea. I have no idea why that would be a problem. But all of this makes me want to drop my oil pan the next time I change the oil. Just to see if there are magnets.

I’ve got so much of it torn apart already. What’s one more thing?

I have a buddy with a JL and He put a aluminum pan on his 3.6 and has one quart more oil capacity and the plug threads are flush with the molding of the pan. He swore up and down to me that the metal pans have a bunge type of thread on the inside of the pan and when you drain the oil not everything comes out. He said when He changed his there was a build up of stuff below the threads inside the pan.

Yuck. The question I have is whether the PPE oil pan works with fumoto valves. Otherwise it’s quite tempting.
