Installed the enclosure for the Rebel rack. Everything worked out really good except the rear door, which still worked out fine just not the way I hoped and I had to improvise. I should have designed it like a normal topper door and use use latches instead of following Rebels idea of using the tailgate to lock in the door. It would have allowed me to do the hurricane hinge a little differently and been easier to seal off from the elements.

I also started working on my bed slide out. I'm skeptical of this one, simply because I kind of expect the Vevor slides to fail, but we will see. I opted for this design over one of the cargo-slide or Decked slide systems because they are expensive and sit so damn high off the deck. With having a half height cap I wanted as much vertical space as I could get. Because if this, I built mine a little too low, and when weight is added it sags just enough to scrape the tailgate, so I added some HDPE pieces for it to slide on to keep it off the tailgate. Effective and easy to replace when they get worn. Next step is coat the decking in Herculiner and some t-track.

Also ordered my lift. AEV Dualsport with high cap springs. From my measurements with the lift, 37's (once I get them), and my tent installed I should have about 1.5-2 inches of clearance to fit in the garage.

Very impressive. I wouldn’t know where to start on a topper project like that. Great work.

Thanks. I had some experience from when I built a topper for my Tacoma following this thread here. I was going to build a GFC for the Taco, but never built the tent portion so I instead just used it as a topper. I kind of wish I had followed the same process with the Jeep and just built it as a half height version. My thoughts were I would be saving time and headache by using the Rebel rack, and there was some piece of mind knowing the rating of the frame, but in hindsight it would have been easier to just do it all from scratch again.

Not sure how I never came across that thread on Tacomaworld. Awesome awesome build and write up. Also that is/was my favorite of all the colors a Tacoma has come in.

Just to clarify, thats not my thread, I just followed that thread for my own build. My Taco build can be found here, if interested. I'll admit it was a good looking truck, just bad performance.

Took my Gladiator for a TRAIN RIDE.

The Amtrak Auto Train from Sanford, Fl (w of Orlando) to Lorton, Va ( s of D.C.), arriving at 9:00 AM tomorrow. Non-stop overnight and then off to central Virginia for the week.

I’ve always wanted to do that. If they ever expand this service to include Denver, I’m in.

I made the rain stop! All I have to do is put on the rain cover and bingo! it stops raining.

IMG_1375.jpeg
I swear this is some strange phenomena that happens to us Jeep owners, I too experience the same thing all the dang time, add the rain cover and it stops raining! But on the other spectrum, immediately after I wash the Jeep it will start to rain
