Yep. Unless the clips are pulled, loosening bolts won’t do anything to widen that gap. I think the only reason my clips are still good is that they’ve all been replaced 6 times. At least in the front. It’s my favorite way to easily access the fender areas.

Clips ?? Holding the freaking fender on ?? That's depressing. External body parts on an off-road vehicle that has the potential to have the snot shaken out of it has plastic clips holding it together ? I made snap-together models when I was a kid, now I'm driving one ??

I know, I know, it works, but still....sad state of affairs...

I fully realize this a full blown case of case of Nunya, (as in Nun ya business) but what condition would cause your issues ? Reason I'm curious is, I've never heard of such a thing.

I've been under vehicles on a creeper for so long that I had to lay my arms down so the blood could return....and dozed off. But, truth be told, I could sleep anywhere. But I've never gotten physically ill.

No explanation expected, a simple Nunya is sufficient...

I used to be that way - spent many many years as a mechanic - and often the hoists/lifts were tied up so I had to do transmission and other work under cars while on the floor. And for decades, even until about 3 years ago, it wasn't a problem. Heck, I have camped in the back of trucks - in some cases, with only a sleeping bag and no mattress.
I've had Meniere's for years, had dizzy spells that left me on the floor unable to even sit in a chair. That was mostly controlled until recent years when it got worse, more frequent and it wasn't just spells or episodes. I went to a specialist who did a series of tests where you wear special goggles and they shoot water into your ears and other stuff, and monitor the response of your eyes. They determined that my inner ear problems had gotten so bad I had lost over 50% of the inner ear or balance function on my left side. So, the two sides are in conflict. You keep your balance when both work together and your brain senses that your eyes, ears and other senses determine if you are moving, still, upright or otherwise.
In my case, they disagree. Worse, getting up and down - meaning laying down, then getting up for a tool or rolling over under the vehicle or sitting up a bit to reach something - I literally lose balance, get sick - headache, dizzy, and nausea.

I mentioned it in our Tuesday am street rod coffee group a while back and another guy said - "me, too - i get sick trying to work under my cars and can't do it for very long at all"
In my case, it's sometimes just minutes before it kicks in, sometimes longer. Today was REALLY BAD.
My brother has Meniere's so bad he had surgery to disconnect parts of his inner ear sensing and had to sell his motorcycle although he still rides a bike a lot. I can ride a bike but man, don't get me on a slanted roof or uneven ground....... I can start to stumble just walking down a sidewalk at times when things get bad. Oddly, driving is just fine, I can ride a bicycle ok (I sold my motorcycle years ago to finance my second flatbed trailer.............)

So, I'm falling apart - 68, well, days from 69, loss of inner ear function, vestibular migraines, Raynaud's - can't deal with cold well, severe ADHD, and essential tremor - helping that with DBS electrodes but then that therapy makes me fatigued! Oh, boy. Well, I'm still warm, still above the sod, so I guess in those respects - hey, I'm ok!

While it does seem chintzy, it actually makes since. I have watched buddies smack a fender when the rock they were going over suddenly tipped the vehicle drastically popping the fender off. If there weren't "breakaway" clips, the option would be bent body panels, stripped out sheet metal screw holes or distorted through bolt holes (again bent body panels).

Food for thought here but the fenders weren't really meant to be armor. Now on both of my Wranglers I currently have some flat fenders installed that are more like rock sliders; they are tube construction and where they attach to the body there is reinforcement that would take a heckuva smack to bend a body panel.

FWIW, that was right after install and painting of the inner fenderwell; they don't look at all that nice now.

Dad had an extra coil mounted in the car with spark plugs in the exhaust pipes. He could downshift and load the exhaust up with rich fumes and hit a switch and blow flames out the pipes after a loud BANG.

LOL !! My Dad always claimed he did the EXACT same thing but I thought he was making crap up. I guess it WAS done !!

When he discharged in 1950/51, the first thing he did was buy a crapped-out Harley. He said he had a leather pouch on the side of his tank with spark plugs in it as he was always fouling plugs. Whenever someone was tailgating him, he would reach into the pouch and drop a plug between his legs. Sometimes it would hit their radiator, a headlight or if "the bounce was right", a windshield. I asked, "They didn't get mad ?" He said, "They thought my bike was falling apart so they backed off.".

Now that I know his spark plug in the exhaust was true, I'm thinking this story was true, as I've always had my doubts !!

I wish there was a similar shirt I could get LOL

I'm going to be sending texts out to our Tuesday coffee group to see if I can entice one of them with a couple 20s or something to come and finish running the cables up along the frame of my JT so I can DRIVE IT AGAIN. otherwise it is going to have to just sit there for days until I can find a way.
Most of them are engine geeks and know little about anything with wires - but that's not a problem if they can operate zip ties and strap it to the existing factory wiring along the frame and into the engine bay, that will be good enough.
I guess I'm to the point I have to lower my standards.

I always thought of my dad as one who was meek, never did anything goofy, never raised cane - after seeing some things written on the garage walls where he grew up, photos of his hunting conquests, and hearing from the father of one of my friends what they used to do - if he was alive, I might have to ask to hear of some of those stories.

It’s quite secure. There are five bolts on the front for the real structure. The clips are just to keep the flare on the sheet metal. It’s a great method to prevent corrosion from bolts or screws going into the sheet metal.

I’ve done both. Neither are exciting. But the reason for the trip is. Taking my AMC 401 to Kenosha, the headquarters of AMC. It’s going to its birthplace, to be machined/reborn.
