Yes, this is how things work. And this is what is currently going on with the strike.

Yes, they probably should increase their rates, and I have told her this. Personally, I would want 3x that to go pull weeds over there. And she can do more in an hour, than I could in four hours, because she's a skilled laborer with landscaping and I'm not.

I negotiate a raise every year, you're losing money if you don't.
The skilled laborers…

There's a lot more to consider in stock buy-backs. People need to do research. Buybacks can actually reduce costs and make the company more attractive to investors, etc. It's a complex thing.
It's not as cut and dried or as simple as the UAW or Jeep owners believe.

I won't comment on what the UAW us doing now and why at this exact time. Clever people will see through it.
For those of us not too clever, can you give us a hint.

A Pyrrhic victory is likely the best outcome workers can hope for here.

Well said. Sad to say most of those in the UAW don’t seem to notice what is obvious…The sooner they call it, the better off they’ll be.

Im usually very ‘Made in the USA’ but if I’m being honest, the people in Mexico would build these trucks more efficient and not bitch about their pay and work hours. Seems like a no brainer from the outside.

Manufacturing in Mexico is getting expensive because the labor laws are heavily regulated and they enjoy much more protections than US workers. They get things like guaranteed profit sharing, guaranteed severance if let go, can only be fired for certain reasons, minimum paid leave, annual bonus, etc. Their minimum wage is higher than the US, and they are more unionized.

And now that China has moved manufacturing there, labor is short and they are demanding higher wages.

Low overhead business. $60 an hour equates to $124,800 a year. Not bad for cutting grass and pulling weeds. Here in SC that would be a good job.

I honestly don't complain about other people's labor costs, never sell yourself short. If anything, I comment when they are low. The landscaper we hired for the rental doesn't use any sprays or chemicals, and hand pulls all the weeds for $60/hr. I was telling the wife that seems low, not sure how you make a living doing that.

There's a lot of unpaid drive time between clients. And there's no work once you blow the sprinklers out in November until you turn them back on in April/May.

Around me, most of the landscaper businesses convert over to contract commercial and residential snow plow/salt service during the winter months. I would not say it is full 100% employment like during the remainder of the year, but they are not starving or not making their bills.
