Which online dealer is paying the most for Gladiators?

Deleted member 28696

When I sold my GMC Sierra 1500 to Autonation they offered a fair price that was better than the other two that were trying to lowball. You can get instant offers in your area through Kelly Blue Book online. That's what led me to Autonation.

driveway's 44,190 is a bit lower than KBBs middle of the road trade-in value on mine.
Top trade-in on mine is 46,795, middle is 44,807. Obviously with the new A/T tires, etc. it's worth more than middle of the road because it's loaded, excellent shape, etc. and the tires don't have many miles on them. So looks like driveway is just a tad below what KBB says is in the middle of the range for trade-in on mine.
Private party sale is 45,600-49,900 with their middle being 47,800 on KBB
I'd be about 12,000 under what a replacement would cost me assuming I could sell mine for top private party sale, which is not likely. (it's crazy how much the Overland equipped like mine has gone up for new prices. 62,000 is MSRP on one equipped as close as possible to what I have now. That's 6K over MSRP on mine when I bought it. And that's not throwing in the new transfer case option and a couple of other things I'd definitely get.

Carvana says 37,500 for mine.
Carmax says 41,900
Driveway had the best so far with 44,190
And to satisfy the local dealer who has called me multiple times and sent me emails, I made an appointment (laughable as there's no formal process it's the old-fashioned stuff) and took it in today.
I walked in and they acted like they had no clue what I was talking about. They didn't want to discuss anything, they were clueless! It was like they didn't know corporate was making phone calls or something. What a joke, what a crock. Well, I let them look at it and a sales guy comes out acting like he wasn't sure he wanted to be there and said "sales manager says $40,500"
I said thanks for looking but that's lower than 2 online quotes I got and left.
He didn't even try to show me a new truck, no discussion at all. It was like they didn't REALLY need anything and like they had plenty of sales. I've never before walked into any dealership around here and not had someone come right up and make conversation or whatever.
Their shop may be ok (except for electrical stuff) but I'd never buy a vehicle from them. It's "here it is, take it or leave it we have other stuff to do" or "you won't get a better deal than this sticker price anywhere and our trade offers are the best around" BS.

My wife and I talked again this AM - my bet is that if someone could get within 10 grand rough numbers (say 44 for mine, a new one for 54) I bet she'd say do it.
I think she looks it is very simply - a truck bought for 54,000 if kept 10 years (now I KNOW damned well this is NOT how depreciation works in a normal economy, so don't jump down my throat - I'm not new to buying and selling and depreciation) Anyway, 54,000, over 10 years, IF all things were even and level, all other stuff like fuel and maintenance aside, and it was worth 20 grand after 10 years, you've used 34,000 over those 10 years. That's 3400/year. It's 2.5 years old (ROUGHLY) so that's 8500 value dropped - actually more because depreciation isn't a level thing. So adding for the fact that you lose more in the first years I figure 10K dropped over this time.
That's why I figure she would say if it could be done for 10K, look into it. She's going to use simple math, and the odds of things happening after running out of warranty and the miles on it. She likes low mileage vehicles. Her 2021 bought in October 2020 has less than 6,000 miles on it. She's proud of that LOL

Anywho, if there was a dealer who could match driveway's money for mine and if I could get one for 54-55, I'd probably do it. But it wouldn't be any Des Moines dealerships, that's for sure!
And after the lackluster encounter with the folks at Dewey this AM, they don't seem to be interested, to care, and have no idea that someone is making phone calls and setting up appointments for looking at used vehicles. Good grief - communicate, folks!

Offers change constantly because they are based on automated algorithms. The algorithm is monitoring publicly available sales data, and accounts for competition in the local market. A few months ago some of the big online companies were making insane offers because the algorithm kind of got away from reality a bit. They've been tweaked, but I suspect we could see another run up based on limited stock.

But in any case, the point is to keep checking, and to check with local dealers. I've seen a range of 10k+ on the offers for mine. So far the highest came from the dealer I bought at.

I had to laugh at that part - you don't know our local dealers. All owned by the same corporate entity based in another state. Seriously - Southtown in Indianola, Stew Hansen in West Des Moines, Dewey in Ankeny..............
You have to leave Des Moines to get away from them - there is Deery Brothers in Ames and in Waukee, I've never bought from them but they paid me good money to buy my Silverado outright.
All corporate stores and mostly operate the same way "I have to go talk to my sales manager", and you pay MSRP for new.

My "local" dealer is probably even worse. Its an AutoNation dealer, which owns an insane amount of car sales in the state, and nationally. But, they still offered me slightly _more_ than I paid for the JTR a couple of months ago on a 2020 with 15k miles.

These Driveway quotes almost seem too good. Like maybe they give you a great quote, then show up for their inspection and try to weasel you down.
I'm going through the process right now with Driveway on my wife's 4XE. They are very slow, but so far have stuck to their original price. I received the paperwork in the mail today, and had "accepted" the offer on March 9th. After completing the online inspection process (using their web based app to take pictures of the vehicle), they confirmed the price and told me it would be a few weeks, as they are very backed up. Hearing that, I was sure they would try to renegotiate or "lose" my paperwork, but sure enough it showed up today. My understanding is that once I overnight it back, the money will be sent to my account and they will schedule a pickup. I'll be happy to keep everyone updated on the process, as I haven't heard Driveway mentioned on the forum previously.

Agree, it's interesting to see the discrepancy in prices right now. The low on the 4XE that I'm selling was $41k from Carvana, and the high was $55.5k from Driveway. Most of the others, such as Vroom, KBB, and GMTV were around $50k.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Driveway is using their high offers to gain some market share. I've read that they are part of the Lithia network, which is a big corporate dealership network in the PNW.

Thought I'd close the loop on Driveway.com. The full offer was put into my account today, and I received a link to schedule pickup. The full transaction took just over a month from offer to receive the money, and just a little bit longer than that for them to pick it up. In my case, the Driveway offer was significantly higher than the others, and I wasn't in a rush, so it was worth it.
