Dropped my Jeep off today with the dealer and sent a few videos to the service advisor showing the noise. Unfortunately, the noise has gotten more subtle and may be harder for the tech to hear… Fortunately (?) I can now hear it more when it shifts between gears. I mentioned having the transmission fluid tested and providing the report to them when I get it back. The service advisor told me that anything the report may show would have to be dealt with by management, as the dealership has to reproduce the noise before they can do anything!

I was informed that their was a service campaign to review the cooter pins in the lower front ball joints and replace as necessary. Anyone reading this may want to contact their dealer with questions…

Finally, I made the appointment almost a month ago (an unrelated issue) and requested a loaner vehicle (hence the long wait)… Dealer did not have one scheduled for me and were unwilling to source one ?… Come on Jeep, you can do better!!!

Update -

Mechanic couldn‘t reproduce the sound after it sat on their lot for a week. When I went to pick up the truck I drove the shop manager around and was able to demonstrate the sound (not as loud). He told me it was normal, to keep an eye on it and let them know if it got worse… Not very helpful.

I know you now drive a new gladiator and you don’t have to deal with the whine noise but to just comment on it, if the whine is the transmission pump, having others that should know better, tell you it’s normal does not indicate nothing is wrong with the pump. If my whine noise was the same as yours, when the transmission imploded, the whine stopped, forward push stopped and i coasted to the side of the road. The glycol in the transmission oil tore into my clutch pack, plugged the screen to the pump, the pump was wearing out by not being supplied the oil it needed and everything else went down hill.

The general manager thought it was a coming from a differential. But who knows? I mentioned getting the transmission fluid tested and he genuinely didn’t know how the dealership would handle a negative sample report.

They can’t handle it. A report is hard irrefutable data that either all is good or it’s not or is ok but may provide lab comments of concern or other instructions. It’s also a legal document if and when things go south. It has a clear and present way of showing corporate’s true colours. At the end of the day, if goes ugly, and you have to hire a law firm to take over, that oil analysis is priceless.
