Ask a lot of questions about the longevity of these electric cars. I too was intrigued so I went up to my local dealership to look at the Jeep 4xe they just got in. Well, when I spoke to the sales guy it was the best thing Jeep has ever produced.
I walked back to service to say hi and asked them what they thought. Their faces went south quick. One said the batteries have a life like any battery, and just one doesn't go out, they all go out. He couldn't tell me what the cost to replace would be for the Jeep, but other vehicles cost upwards of $10,000 to replace. I asked how long till they go bad? They shrugged and said maybe 5-6 years. They suggested staying with gas powered. If you go up to your dealership, go back to service and ask them about it before you talk to the sales guy trying to make commission.
Most mechanics really are that clueless and lack any ability to look forward to new technologies.

It is relevant because the new batteries will take less space (space won’t matter because a battery bank will be much smaller) and the EV will charge faster and travel more miles.

I would wait to purchase an EV.
Yes, that is true for future models, it has no effect for this model. Based on past experience, there is little chance of any retrofit or upgrade of the battery pack for this model.

I agree, don't buy this electric model unless you have a high disposable income. Leasing will be a better deal for most people, and then you are not stuck with first generation technology.

Dealers are not all that fond of fully electric cars. There is no Service Department income stream from them, since they need very little maintenance, and most repairs are warranty claims that don't pay as well as other work. On top of that, they have to pay the cost to put in charging stations and provide free charging for customers, and get at least one tech trained to be an electric car specialist.

Not to mention that particularly Tesla doesn't need any sales or F&I people, or dealerships. The entire automotive sales/care model is outdated like the ICE is, all to the benefit of the consumer. I did my Tesla order in 30 minutes on Carvana's web site and it showed up less than 48 hours later, they took the trade, done. No humans, no $500 undercoating and $900 alarm hardsell.

JT costs:
Registration annual: $700
Fuel for 10k miles: $1800
Oil change: $80
(Add in something for the occasional things like brake pads and other fluids)
Total: $2580+

Tesla:
Registration: $40
"Fuel" for same miles: $130
No other maintenance, total: $180

I'm curious, how much did you pay for the new Tesla?

I would like to have a truck, I have always wanted to try a Wrangler (mostly doors/top off reason, maybe some light off-road trip), and I would really like to have a plug-in hybrid. However, in reading all of the 4xe horror stories, I don't get the warm and fuzzies in buying a $50K+ vehicle that sits in the shop forever. If the tesla (or other truck) had the electric or plug-in hybrid model with the doors/top off option, I would seriously consider them.

I don't trust the dealership shop techs, though, regarding their negativity towards hybrids or electrics. They clearly are in trouble if the ICE goes away. If the techs talked about all of the tech gremlins that would be one thing. Replacing a battery down the road is not one of my concerns.

$46k for a 2019 M3 AWD long-range dual motor, premium interior, premium sound, 16k miles, standard Autopilot installed. The truck is expected to be $70k for the tri-motor super edition, and $40k base model. I expect the truck to probably cost 50% more on fuel, but that's just my gut, I have no evidence to back it up.

I don't trust 90% of mechanics on any opinion of technology. I was around for the times when every mechanic was saying that fuel injection was a fad and would never work. Then ABS. Then...blah blah blah. That said, this Jeep hybrid seems like a crappy combo maybe.
