Thank you for this. Did you weld the exterior vertical bar to the 90 degree angle steel piece or bolt it on? I see in your pic the 90 degree piece is on but the rack looks to be removed. My plan is to haul two 70 pound kayaks up there but I will only need them every so often when I need the bed as well as the kayaks also easily fit in the bed when the cover is rolled up.

It’s bolted so that it can be easily removed. It takes about 2 minutes to get the rack off.

Inside of the uprights are turnbuckles. I don’t have pictures of them currently but I had used them for this rack that was on my JKs.

They are mounted inside the upright here.

Productive day! First reinstalled my rack that I reshaped

Then I rolled the dice on a on and off rainy day to drop the windshield for running wiring up the A-Frame for an Auxbeam 6 gang switch panel.

Then I threw on some driving lights as it got dark out. Still lots of wiring to be done though.

Went to hit the local RTI ramp to check to make sure my locker wiring had enough slack as well as see if adding a hockey puck would keep my tires out of the fender.

Unfortunately, failed at both goals. Because of where the ramp was, I couldn’t get my right front on it to check the wiring and my tire is still into the fenders up front.

Didn’t much care for the thin metal that used to hold the factory air dam.

So I broke out the sawzall and angle grinder.

It looks cleaner now (in my opinion)

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I backed into a tree on the trail this weekend. The tree was no where near me when I started a rocky climb but I bounced and slid enough making multiple attempts to have it end up directly behind me. I admittedly had tunnel vision by then and was only focused on the rocks ahead.

The kayak v-bars took the hit which transferred the force into my aluminum rack. It bent pretty good. After looking it over today and knowing I wanted to drag my Surfski to the beach in 5 days, I decided to rebuild it.
