How bad is the wind noise when you run a rack and have the roof. roof and doors off? How about with the soft top pulled back?

I'm still on the fence about my rack needs. My old tacoma had a shell with a rack, and it was great. I'm planning on a Yakima Overhaul or OVS Freedom truck rack https://overlandvehiclesystems.com/freedom-rack-with-cross-bars-and-side-supports/

I plan on taking the hard top off as much as possible, will the road noise be a pain? I'm sure I can "get away" with a rack on my hard top and, if needed, use my harbor freight goal post for longer things on the roof. I have no plans for a RTT. Just need to haul surf board, kayaks/canoes and occasional lumber. I love the utility of a rack an rolling locking cover, but i'm treading carefully because i really can't waste $2xxx on a rack and tonneau if i'm going to be bothered by the wind noise.

Do you have Trail Rails in the bed? If so the Yakima will not fit. I have a 22" KB VooDoo bed rack which I take on and off and I don't notice any wind noise from it. If you have the top off that will be the dominant noise and you probably won't hear much else.

Same

And same... I had the J-style kayak racks for the round crossbars, and I'd leave one on pretty much all summer and use the other side for paddleboards or other toys.

I had also been looking at the Yakima Overhaul system, but at $1000 including crossbars and sidebars, that Freedom Rack is looking like a steal. Thanks for the tip!

I don't have trail rails, but I almost bought an Overhaul HD off of a guy who ran them in his JT without trail rails... besides, I am looking to get a tonneau with the t slot track, either bak revolver or whatever rugged ridge comes out with with the track.

If you don't notice any noise with the KB bed rack, I should be fine. Thanks!

It looks like an obvious knock off... but i like how the tower bases are flat so i won't need to pay another $120 for the tonneau kit that doesn't really fit the bak revolver.

@RiderDad27 posted it here: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...-tonneau-install-and-review.33134/post-898647

this is pretty much exactly what I want to do... even the MTB pad. My Dakine pad doesn't work with either the backup camera or the factory tonneau but it looks like it works with the bak revolver

I’ve had many topless/doors off days with a Yakima Overhaul and no issues with additional wind noise.

One thing I can say is NEVER have a 32’ extension ladder above the soft top. Anything over 50mph and it sounds like driving through a tornado, I was worried the top would tear with all the buffeting.

Noted!

Its tough to tell in your profile pic... is you overhaul mounted to the bed or the trail rails?
