What that looks like is the cable to the control head, which is typically mounted where the cigar lighter would be. Was the actual controller not there? It would have been mounted somewhere under the dash. Was that part missing?

The Redarc I had used a CAT5 network cable type of cable. In fact, I didn't like how their cable fit and routed so i grabbed a CAT5 cable out of a box of network stuff I have and used it. RJ45 ends.
