is there a reason you choose the plus kit vs the premium?
wasnt sure of the difference, plus we had some things already, like track bars etc, thought we would save a little bit.....

got the same lift, different shocks. The difference between the overland plus and the premium comes down to goals. The premium kit has johnny joints on the adjustable end of the control arms for maximum flex/misalignment. The joints flex a total of 40 degrees. The tradeoff is that johnny joints need to have regular maintenance, can make ride a bit more harsh, and can be loud in daily driving.

The overland plus kit puts dual density bushings on each end of the control arms. These offer a decent amount of misalignment but not quite the same as the premium. The tradeoff is a softer, more compliant street ride vs the Johnny joints.

Clayton helped walk through this with us, and is why we picked the overland plus for our needs. If our truck was a more dedicated crawler we would have gone premium. But, our use as a jack of all trades and family ride pointed more to the overland plus kit.

hope this helps!

THANK YOU for that info, I wasn't too sure of what the difference between the Johnny joints was other than some more flex. I won't be going rock crawling but I definitely want Clayton. I'm ordering the Overland Plus tonight. Thanks again.

congrats! Post up the results. We love our setup. We found Clayton to be very helpful. Check out my build page for what we decided to do with the front driveshaft. Strongly recommend a custom front driveshaft to go with your lift. They arent super high and will give you piece of mind. We are trying to source a carrier bearing spacer to address the rear angles too.

good luck!

I have read this opinion about Johnny Joints being "harsh", but I don't agree. I drive on my Johnny Joints daily. There is no noise coming from my EVO control arms whatsoever. I have run different makes of control arms, so I have some basis for comparison.

From OEM JT and TJ to;

(TJ) OEM - SOFT
(TJ) Urethane - HARSH to STIFF
(TJ) Metalcloak double adjustable aluminum - PLUSH
(TJ) Rubicon Express Extreme Duty long arm joints - FIRM
(JT) OEM - SOFT
(JT) EVO CURRIE JOHNNY JOINTS - MEDIUM to FIRM

I mean, harshness is subjective. The bushing/joint design is the difference between overland and premium with clayton’s gear. Their rationale is what i passed along. I am sure the johnnys are livable, but I’m digging the girros in my kit.
