A few weeks ago I picked up an LOD Signature Series Shorty bumper from @B.A. Baracus and I finally got around to installing it. I was able to snag the Badlands Apex winch at Harbor Freight over winter when they had a sale on them. My buddy came over yesterday and we got it all installed despite the graupel (aka snow covered in ice, he was proud that he knew that word).

The bumper install wasn't too bad. It was a tight fit getting to some of the nuts and bolts to tighten them, especially once you put the winch in there. We did have to modify the winch and take the cables out the side of the cover. It was really easy to do that and my buddy even had a rubber grommet that covered the old hole. I used my Aux 3 button wired to a 500 amp relay to control power to the winch. I mounted the relay on top of my Lasfit aux button mount in the engine bay, which worked out nicely. The only thing I have left to do is do some heat shrink on some of the cables and shorten the two big power cables.

Overall I am extremely happy with both the bumper and winch!

I really like how low the winch sits in the bumper.
That was my requirement when I was looking for a bumper. I wanted one where the winch would sit down inside it between the frame. It was hard to find one like that and also work with the Mojave skid plate. I really wanted an aluminum one but didn't want to pay for it, lol.

Yeah, when I was looking for a bumper, I was really torn between winch location and ground clearance. I opted for ground clearance because I hated the look of the Mojave skid plate. It definitely leaves the steering components exposed though.

It works with the factory LED fog lights and the Mojave skid that protects the remote shock reservoirs. I believe the Rubicon sway bar skid is the same size as the Mojave one so it should work with that. The bumper directions say this bumper works with three different kinds of factory fog lights. There was a bracket that is used to fit one or both of the other fog lights. Mine bolted right up to the bumper without the adaptor bracket.

I have the stinger shortie bumper and Apex winch sitting in the garage waiting for a nice weekend install. Also have the LoD skid plate too.

Retired. Finally !!
I thought Aux 3 and 4 were only 15 amps, while 1 and 2 are 40 amps. I would assume you'd want higher amps for a winch, or am I wrong ? I don't have a winch, just thinking out loud...
