Back when I was a wee little tike. My Grandpa showed up at our house late in the afternoon around Christmas time. My mom hated that man and we did not see Grandpa too often. Grandpa had a card with $50 for myself, my brother and my sister and a wrapped gift for each. $50 was huge back in the mid 80's we where dirt poor food stamp champs.

We each opened the gifts and they were old used cowboy boots. Grandpa said put them on, get you coats and meet me outside. Grandpa had this old Jeep I want to say it was a 1943 or close to it. Grandpa taught us how to bumper ski that night and we had a F ing blast holding on to that jeeps bumper as Grandpa pulled us around the hood in the snow with our new used boots.

When we got done you can tell my mom was so pissed off but she knew better to run her mouth to that man. Grandpa would have put a bar of soap in her mouth.

I got to ride in that Jeep a few times. That Jeep and his Zippo lighter were his favorite possessions. I would do anything to find and buy Grandpas old Jeep.

Riding through back country roads around 1968 in an old Willys with a wild driving teenager at the wheel who owned it when I went to visit my cousin for a week the summer of eighth grade.

Great topic OP, mine was the Green J10 my dad had, young me, my dad, and our two dogs (one Doberman, one German Shepherd)all sitting on the bench seat. We also had a CJ7 and I remember sitting on the rear wheel well instead of the back seat to get a better view

My grandfather had a 49 Willys that stayed at his hunting cabin. When I was 10 or 11, he taught me to drive it, then started tasking me with chores that required the jeep. Go to the mouth of the canyon and get rocks to build a fire ring, go to the pond and see if there are any tracks, things like that. I spent so much time in that jeep it began to feel like it was mine. Learned how to tune the carb, fix the winch, change a flat, etc. He had no idea what the love of that Jeep would do to me. I am over 50 now, and I have owned 13 Jeeps. My Gladiator is the first one that wasn't a basic 2 dr. Always felt a Jeep should be as basic as possible, manual everything. I will admit, heated seats and adaptive cruise are really nice features to have while still being able to run Pritchett Canyon...

I got an ‘84 CJ7 when I was 17 in high school. On my first drive home after picking it up I was on the freeway with no doors on. An older gentleman in a Jeep slowly passed me on the left and when I looked over he gave me an approving “wave”. I thought “this is the coolest thing ever”. I was officially in the Jeep club. Biggest mistake I ever made was selling the Jeep when I started a family. Took me 20 years to get back into a Jeep with my Gladiator.

My Grandfather drove a scouting Jeep for the 3rd Calvary Armored Car and Tank unit in WWII. He had WWII Jeeps pictures everywhere. The Jeeps name was Sandy.

The story behind this picture was: My grandfather (left) met this guy on the bus to enlist (he enlisted and was not drafted when he was 17) That's another story HAHAHA. These 2 were from the same town in Upstate NY. While he was in Germany he developed a pretty sever case of dysentery and was about to be pull out and sent back to a hospital in Allied territory safe zone. After getting word he was being pulled form the front these 2 ran into each other again. The guy on teh left was in working in teh med unit and happened to notice my grandfather was being relocated. My grandfather felt he was abandoning his unit and this man helped him abscond back to the front to meet up with his unit. Basically stealing his gear back and running away from the hospital back to the front with his unit. My grandfather was known for his embellishment but that is what o took form the way he told the story. He lived to be 94 years young.

My first jeep was in 1986, but it was a 1982. My buddy and our girl friends were driving a canyon in the winter. The canyon was dirt roads covered in snow. We got toward the top of the mountain and got stuck in a snow drift. We tried everything to get unstuck, No Cell Phones and 20 miles off road. We eventually took the spare tire cover off and used it as a sled to pack the snow in front. We were finally able to get it moving and drove up the sage brush for traction. We thought we were stuck for the night and prepared for the long hike out.
After that jeep I was hooked. Since then, I've had jeeps on and off over the years. And every one of them have provided great memories. A few years back I bought my daughter a jeep I got from a friend since she was going to School in North Dakota and her VW just wasn't cutting it. While cleaning it up for her and doing some minor upgrades, I got the itch! Now I'm loving my new Mojave X and making it all mine.

Back in 1971, I purchased a 1942 Ford gpw with a homemade metal top and someone had swapped out the 4cyl for the old Willy’s f-head 6cyl. I joined a jeep club and we went 4 wheeling all over SE Tennessee, North Georgia and NE Alabama. Good times! Got married, sold the ‘42, bought a 1967 CJ5, fell in love with a 1969 CJ5 with the V6. Absolutely the best and most fun Jeep I owned. Stripped it down, installed a Muncie 4 speed tranny, rebuilt the engine and did sand drags for 10 years, put it all back together and drove it on the street and woods until I sold it in 1988 and cried like I had lost my first born. Now I have a 2021 JTOD and am back in love again!!

I was maybe four years old (I have a great memory from early years) and ran out of a tree line at a park and was nearly hit by a Jeep hauling ass across a grass clearing with like six teenagers hanging off it.

BUT - I fell in love with the things when Jurassic Park came out. After that, I'd always slow down and drool whenever riding my bike past this olive drab YJ that lived a few doors down from me.

When I was a kid my dad got stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii for a few years. One year he took me out of school for a week and we went to Maui to go snorkeling, whale watching, and hang out (the deal was I had to do a long presentation on humpback whales and their migration routes for school when we got back - to this day I still love humpback whales).
Anyway, the car he rented was a red Jeep with half doors and a bikini top, I think it was a YJ. Anyway, that's what we cruised around in for the week, including driving to the Haleakala Observatory (10,000+ ft in elevation). Of course I'm in swim trunks, a t-shirt, and flip flops in an open Jeep with half doors.

TL;DR: I froze my ass off in an open Jeep in Hawaii.

First Jeep memory:

1961, two MPs pulling up in a Jeep and ordering me off the Jeep Test HIll on Fort Holabird where we were stationed.

Next Jeep memory:
1964, two MPs scrambling a Jeep from the MP station to try and catch us in the warehouse area on Fort Sam Houston where we were joyriding forklifts.

Finally scratched my itch after selling my motorcycles and buying a '98 Wrangler Sahara in 2014.

When Jeep and Levi Strauss co-developed a Jeep with a Levi's Blue Jean interior in the mid 1970's just about the time I got my learners permit. It sounded cool then and it still sounds good - to me

I had a friend get in some trouble in the mid 90s and he went to jail for about a year and a half. He got in a fight outside a club and during the melee he accidentally clocked a female innocent bystander and she went down badly. Even though the other group started it, they pressed charges and he lost. Their lawyer was better than his.

Anyway...I was tasked with keeping his 1982 CJ-7 while he was locked up and holy goddamn did I have a blast in that thing.
