The fact that that setting exists in the BCM and isn't enabled by default, or at least somewhere user accessible in the menus, has me scratching my head.
Since the cab doesn't have to be opened to release the hood, it makes sense to have it disabled by default. I don't unlock the cab to check the oil, and would not want the alarm going off at odd hours. If I lived in a different neighborhood, that might require a change, but it's not necessary right now.

Yes, I agree with that. Seems like they could put it into the radio menus, though, to be user selectable.

I never said they were Canada”S smartest criminals when the soft top was on and they could of just popped open the back window. Yup they kneeled down and old school picked the lock, it was also obvious as they was smudge marks on the dirt and the key cylinder was turned sideways Here is a video of car lock being picked i am fairly sure they unplug the wires to the OBD2 port and use a bypass cable. So a lock may not do it. I am not sure why they also ripped out the glove box. I think they disabled the uconnect as well.
So they disabled the alarm first then, damn….. sounds like the bypass cable did not work which is good. With a Sport S mine is probably lower on the stealing totem pole without all the pretty locking diffs, offroad plus and sway bar disconnect plus I have the OEM 245 tires. Not exactly something they want to ship to mexico. I still have hood locks that required a cylinder style key.

I wondered that, the two pig tails were still plugged in, so I am thinking that was their error, but at the same time my fobs were deleted, so they somehow wrote to the computer. Not sure if their exact error.

Mine used to alarm and no longer does. It has been to the dealership recently for warranty work. Maybe they disabled it for some reason. I should call and ask.
Yes it is just a setting.

Mine is in a locked garage- so the truck is not normally locked anyway.

If it was, it's nothing to unlock the cab then open the hood. Why would I even open the hood but have the rest of the truck locked? Makes no sense to me.
Any time I'd have the hood open, the truck is going to be unlocked.
If I'm checking oil, it means I'm likely going to do some service, or will be driving it......... I can't see me leaving the truck locked and opening the hood.

I've never had the hood of anything open, but had the rest of it locked.

People talk of the cameras and all of that - you have to be looking at the video to know anything is happening. The damage is already done by the time you see the results from a camera.

One other thing is a $25 Apple AirTag hidden somewhere inside.

I was able to track my daughters skis this summer when she flew to Oregon to ski at Mt. Hood.

Years ago, I'm talking like 30 years ago, I installed a car alarm that included a beeper. If the alarm triggered, the beeper went off. it was good for several hundred yards.

Eventually these kinds of alarms stopped being offered. I suspect because they didn't want the liability of someone confronting a criminal in the middle of the night. In other words, they worked TOO WELL.

A.I. Has come a long way on cameras, you can set up alerts when it detects a person in the driveway alert on the phone. Cameras don’t help you get your jeep back, alone. But they can be an effective tool in learning their methods. I have watched a lot of videos the last couple of days and learnt so much.

The app absolutely sucks. It often takes ten minutes to find the location. I have set off the alarm it does not alert me.

I thought the hood was armed for alarm, but experimenting in the driveway confirms that it is not. My question, why the two switches under the hood? I get that one triggers the hood open light on the dash but, what’s the other one for?

It is for the alarm, just not enabled. I assume you need to ask your dealer or use JScan to enable.

They are also monitored by ESS and Remote Start. Neither one will activate if the hood is open.

Not everyone has a garage to lock their truck in. My truck is always locked unless I have a reason to be in it.

I check the oil before a trip. I then remote start and go inside while the cab cools down. Since there is no hood release inside the cab, there is no reason to open the cab until I'm ready to load stuff in it. Why unlock the cab if I don't need to get in it?

Cameras are a deterrent, unless you can afford to pay someone to actively watch them. The Ring cameras do have configurable motion alerts that will show a picture of what the camera sees when the alert goes off. Our cameras mostly just pick up the delivery guys and the animals, but you can see if you actually need to interrupt what you are doing to go check on something.

Seems like that could have easily been tied to the alarm.

The alarm also monitors if the hood is open. It just defaults to not responding to it. That is a setting that can be changed with Jscan, AlfaOBD, a Tazer, or a trip to the dealer.
