Hey all just curious if by chance anyone has either of these two. Needing a cargo trailer. I like the first because its cheap, and dumps, but also expands for 12f loads. Although it would need to be modified to accept good tie downs. The second is probably a better quality unit, although longer and not able to haul loose rock/dirt.

Does anyone have personal experience with either of these?

I’ve got no experience with those two, but I’ve got some relevant feedback. I was initially dead set on a trailer with ~18” sides. I couldn’t locate one that would work due to supply chain issues.

I ended up buying a trailer with a wood deck, ramp, and tube sides and adding my own side boards for ~$100 (plywood, paint, and hardware). It was a fun DIY project and I’ve had some folks comment on it (I.e. Ask about the brackets).

Throw down a tarp and you can haul loose material like dirt and rocks without an issue.

I would recommend a wood deck…allows you to drill to add cargo d-rings wherever you want. 15” wheels/tires tow well and it rides well fully loaded. I also like the swing up jack (less cranking of the jack needed).

I wouldn’t recommend smaller than 5’ x 8’. That size…in my experience…cuts down having to make repeat trips (i.e. Dump runs), but isn’t a pain to store, size wise.

I have a BigTex trailer that i bought used 12 years ago and it's been a great trailer with good build (sturdy) quality.

If you have a bigtex dealer near by i would look there, may cost a little more but solid product.

Does it really matter? It's a safety feature that, as mentioned earlier, helps prevent accidental deaths. I can't understand why people are so against life-saving features like this just because 'it annoyed me a little one random afternoon'.
thats a good point. Thanks for the idea I might do this

not where I am. I live in a extremely rural area. 60 mile drive just to get groceries. main stream trailers are way more than i want to soend anyway. Theyre good but last time I looked at one, thanks to covid times, a 12’ basic trailer was like 8,000 bucks.

I had one of these once and got it from Tractor Supply...they're great utility trailers....see link.

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/search/5 x 10 utility trailer?

This one is the same size as mine, and mine had a tool cage on the front. I liked that fact that the tongue was made from a triangle than just a single bar leading to the hitch for better stability and strength.

I took a couple of 2 x 12's and closed in the front and sides. It'd haul a LOT of stuff.

I actually used it once to tow my motorcycle (Honda Shadow ACE 1100 Tourer) from NW NJ to upstate MI and back one memorial day weekend and, it did admirably...my 2002 GC Special Edition with the 4.7L V-8, not so much  After that trip, I got my '08 GC Overland with the Hemi and it didn't even know the trailer was back there :rock::rock:

Price ain't too to bad either for what you get...a good sturdy trailer and if I recall, they're 15' wheels.

That was #1 on my list. I wanted one of those (built like a brick shit house), but it would have put me over the tongue limit for my previous vehicle.

If the price doesn’t put someone off (the 5’ x 8’ I was looking at was ~$4,000), I’d get that and call it a day.

You need to make a trip to Oklahoma/Arkansas. You can buy 5x8 or 10s all day long for under $1000. I just bought a 4x7 for $100 that'll be a good platform to start a camping trailer.
It's hard to help recommend a trailer for you since you didn't list what you wanted it for.

My.02: Salt/snow is rough on powder coated trailers. It gets under it and there's no stopping it. That said you should get 5 or mor years with moderate care I got one to the 10 year mark but wire wheeled it 2x and repainted...

I just got a galvanized trailer from lowes 5x10 (made in Canada) that is working out well. So far....

+1 on making your own sides.

good call. Hse includes home improvement needs. Transporting wood, rick, brick, drywall, etc…. I bought a house last year that is a fixer. Lots of trips to lowes and home depot in the future.

yeah prices here are insane. I wish they would calm down.

I have a 5' X 10' tilt trailer made by Belmont. 15" wheels, 3500# axle and I like it. The tractor in the picture weighs close to 2000# with the belly mower. Super EZ to drive up and off.

If you can, try to avoid wheels smaller than 14 inches, and 15 inches is better.
Trailer kits typically come with inexpensive wheel bearings, and the smaller (10-inch or less) wheels will spin at high RPMs at highway speeds, and wear out the wheel bearings.
Also, 14- or 15-inch tires are easier to find.

Right! I installed brakes on my trailer and before installing I put Timken Bearings and cups instead of the made in China ones that came with the drums.

I would recommend one of these, 12K dump, that fits my tractor with bucket and mower.

Now I may only be able to tow the trailer empty with my manual JTR because it is near the max tow capacity, but it looks cool.

I second the Big Tex trailers. I paid $4400 for a 7X14 enclosed two years ago, Still have a 12 year old 7X14 dove tail I use for my tractor. In 12 years I have replaced the tires and touched up the paint, still a strong very usable trailer.

Same here. That’s the only reason I went new. I didn’t see anything around ~$1,000 that looked like it didn’t belong in a junk yard. Most that appeared to be serviceable were ~$1,500.

I got mine new for ~$1,700. It was a no brainer for me, considering how much I would be using it. I.e. Once the leaves start dropping, I’m looking at 2-3 dump runs per weekend.

That’s 5’ x8’ and 18”+ deep (compacted) for each trip. ? At least I’ve got a lawn tractor with bagger to cut down the pickup time.

At some point, I need to make taller side boards (I.e. 48”) to cut down the quantity of lawn debris trips required.
