Tazer Mini... a Word of Caution

Hi everyone,

I received the Tazer Mini yesterday and started to program it, everything went well. One thing I was looking forward to activate was the Pin Lock feature so once finished programming I tried it out in my driveway and it worked perfectly. The only problem was this morning on my way to work after a 20 min drive on the highway I came to a red light and the Auto Start/Stop feature stoped the engin (anything to save gaz I welcome). When the light turned green I let go of the brake pedal, tried to accelerate and the Pin Lock kicked in!

The truck would not move and the Lightshow started, at first I was not sure what was happening having installed it just the day before, so anyway entered the PIN Code again and got moving. I consider myself lucky because at this intersection the lights are quite long and when the light is green the cars really go by fast but today there was no one it was really quiet.

So maybe it's just me or I missed something in the instructions but if you do the upgrade to the latest firmware like I did be careful if you have the Auto Start/Stop and the Pin Lock activated you may be in for a surprise. Go out do a full test drive on a quite road and see for yourself.

Disable ESS with the Tazer, problem solved.

What firmware did you update to? There was a newer firmware that addressed some of the issues with the pin. As a matter of fact I am updating my Tazer as we speak! The newest firmware is 11.4.2

That is the latest firmware and its the one I updated to yesterday.

Just fully test it first because if your wife, kids or friends etc drive the Jeep they may be caught off guard.

I sent an email at Z Automotive regarding this issue and I received this reply today...


Hi there,
this is an issue we are working on and no workaround at this time. Until it is resolved, please disable the pin lock feature in the live menu or disable electronic stop start while in the vehicle and the Tazer JL Mini should keep it off and remember the setting the next time you start the vehicle. Currently it is an issue we are working on and don't have an ETA yet but when it is resolved we will update our firmware page with the updated version currently we are at 11.4.2 so watch for a 11.4.3 and the update notes on this.

Hi, yes the issue has been fully resolved and the pin lock works fine with the remote start so far I haven't had any issue with it. You hit the remote start button twice and when you get into the Gladiator you press the break pedal hit the start button and then enter the pin lock. Another great safety feature.
