Lol I mean I’m glad they are going this route vs closing areas down….
Is the course a joke? Yes- I for sure think it’s a joke. Do I think others could benefit…. Yes- though I doubt that it will change the poor choices that are likely the problem.

???. Thanks for the heads up though! I’m sure many folks would be pretty pissed coming from out of state to wheel and learn after they arrive.

It says 18 and over. Does it count if I'm a 16 year old at heart? It's just common sense to be polite to people in the outdoors.(and everywhere) Don't be that douchebag. Life's to short to be the asshole.

Pay to play. If it helps keep access open and helps out of t owners annoy the locals less, then it’s worth it’s weight in gold.

The added regulations around OHV and motos are significant as well. SxS idiots have done more to hurt off-road access than just about anything else. The majority of the push for this is from locals (and visitors) that are fed up with SxS morons. The influx of those vehicles over the last 4-5 years has really pushed things to the breaking point in UT (and many other states). Places that only skilled moto riders could access in the past now have a crew of SxS‘s with no driving skills, 1000cc turbo engines, and deep cleated tires blasting along, literally destroying the trails in front of you. Go to Moab, you’ll see it. Lack of respect for fence status is another big issue, not to mention just staying on the existing trail. It can take YEARS to rehab the desert soil.

Even if it just raises cash to help with signage or trail remediation, it’s worth it. I’m driving a $75k MSRP truck with thousands of dollars of modifications on it. It is 1400 miles to Moab from my house and we go out there a couple times a year. I’m not complaining about a $35 fee to help keep some of the best offroad lands in the country open.

Nice. No one should complain then.

I’d pay honestly, if it helped. But, I’m a TL member and donate to many responsible advocacy groups.

Education about potential trail damage is important for people traveling to the high desert. Plus it’s useful for enforcement when people inevitably act like idiots. I love the fact they aren’t just issuing fines, but making offenders do community service to repair the places they did the damage at.

Um, good. Call me what you want, but I can't stand when people treat public spaces like shit. If this kind of thing keep cheap-asses out, or teaches disrespectful people a thing or two, I see nothing but good coming from it.

By the way this has nothing to do with Jeeps. All street legal vehicles are exempt, this is for dirtbikes and such.

I want to find the actual document I read the other day but here is a FAQ right from the website. If you have a license plate you are not an OHV at all.

The picture you posted is talking about a permit

The course in question is not for a permit. You get a certificate stating you took the course.

The PDF I linked is a little confusing but here are the 3 Type definitions.

Oh sorry that was from the Utah State Parks official .gov website. But basically I'm just reiterating that nearly all of us here are not considered OHVs. Any required classes, licenses, permits, etc. labeled for OHVs don't include cars/trucks with highway license plates.
