You might want to look into some of the new electrically assisted bikes. They are pretty amazing and you can adjust the assist from so much it's essentially an electric motorcycle to just a bit to help out when you hit a hill.I know you aren't kidding and I agree. I can't any more - age and health, but I used to walk 4 miles in an hour.
And before I retired, the number of people that rode really nice bikes several miles to work was amazing. It's healthy, cheap, and more.
LOL - I used to work for a guy who did RAGBRAI every year. That's a ride across Iowa, river to river in the heat of summer, hills and all.
He'd load up his bike on his car, drive to the END of the route, park his car, then ride his bike east to west across Iowa and get there in time to start the official RAGBRAI ride - then he'd make the trip with the hundreds of other bikers and his car was waiting for him at the end.
(looking at him you'd swear he never got any exercise and 10 miles on a bike would kill him - but he did fine)
Yup. Total game changer for many peopleE- bikes are nice.
My wife has asked about those..... not cheap! But still........ it's crossed my mind. You might want to look into some of the new electrically assisted bikes. That is of course if you enjoy riding. I really enjoy it and if I ever reached a point where it was too much for me, I'd definitely get an electric assisted bike.

That's a good idea. We are thinking of another Florida trip next year and many of the places we may hit again would be good for such things.See if there's a rental shop either nearby or on one of your trips.
We rented some for a half day last year at Emerald Isle, NC and loved them.
You can pedal as much or as little as you want, most trails allow them, and you can cover so much more ground for the same amount of work.
I was going to order a pair, but somehow got sidetracked and bought a JTM instead.
Around here a beater if what you buy from a private party for <$1,000I hear there are other ways to warm up a tranny, if you’re into that kind of stuff. Seriously though, no one has mentioned that on a short trip like that, your exhaust won’t get hot enough to get rid of the water created by the combustion of the gasoline. Your muffler life will suffer too. Buying a beater to drive is not even economical thanks to our crazy economy. 5000$ doesn’t go very far in todays used car market. To me, that is a ridiculous amount of money for a beater. You may have answered your own question with your second sentence, if it weren’t for Mother Nature. Hop and skip! My suggestion is take the scenic route If you’re going to drive.
Good point - short drives never fully charge batteries......... might be a candidate for a solar charger if it's outside at work.I'd definitely change the oil more often, maybe every 4 months, and hook it up on a battery tender every couple of weeks to keep the those charged too. Take it for longer drives whenever feasible...
Put a big basket on your nike. LOLSeems my concerns are legitimate. Buying another car seems extreme, especially with the cost of NYC insurance. Leaving my house 20-30 minutes early just to drive around also seems excessive. Might just have to bike it, except I'm expected to pick up the baby at in-laws after work who are literally the same fcking distance away... Will have to come up with something
